His ministry was taken over by his widow, Nuzy Rivera.[14] A popular conspiracy theory alleges that Rivera died due to food poisoning.[15] According to cemetery records, he is buried in Section Moore (28) L-14 #3 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.[16][17]
