The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Military Police Brigade, in coordination with Uganda Traffic Police, has launched a countrywide operation targeting vehicles without number plates, registration or valid licences.

The operation, dubbed “Tekeleza Sheria,” began immediately in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area and will be extended across the country.

According to the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, the operation will also target vehicles with covered number plates, including those belonging to members of the security forces and personnel in ministries, departments and agencies.

Drivers of vehicles found in violation will be arrested and prosecuted for what the UPDF described as gross violations of traffic regulations.

Security personnel will also be arrested for traffic offences, including driving without valid driving permits or licences.

The operation will further target civilian-registered vehicles found carrying military stores or paraphernalia, including military jackets, whether displayed on the driver's seat or kept elsewhere in the vehicle.

The UPDF says drivers or owners of such vehicles will be arrested and court-martialled in accordance with the UPDF Act 2025, as amended.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, Colonel Chris Magezi, Acting Director of Defence Public Information, said the operation will continue until further notice.

The public has been urged to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with security agencies during the operation.
