The joint forces of the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) say they have received two Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels.
The duo, according to a statement released on Monday, surrendered to the UPDF 3rd battalion headquarters at Kasindi, North Kivu, in the eastern DRC.
Major Bilal Katamba, the spokesperson for Uganda's military operations in the DRC, said they also killed two ADF rebels and rescued seven abductees who are currently at the joint forces sector headquarters awaiting evacuation and the subsequent rehabilitation process.
“The two fighters reported to the UPDF 3rd battalion yesterday, August 6, 2023," Katamba said, adding: "Two terrorists of the ADF were put out of action on Sunday, by the joint forces under Makindye battalion. This was after the joint forces got in contact with the ADF in Mwalika Valley and two submachine guns, 15 rounds of ammunition, and a walkie-talkie were recovered".
“The joint forces wish to encourage all ADF rebels who would wish to surrender to the joint forces to use the earliest opportunity and report to any joint forces operating within their vicinity,” he added.
