The Ministry of Health has announced the confirmation of three new cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), increasing the country’s total confirmed cases to five.

In an official press release issued today, the Ministry detailed the latest developments in the ongoing response to the outbreak. The update comes as health authorities continue contact tracing and surveillance efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

The three newly confirmed cases include a Ugandan driver who transported the country’s first confirmed Ebola case. He is currently receiving treatment, a Ugandan health worker who was exposed to the virus while providing care to the index case. She is also under medical care, a Congolese woman, a resident of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who entered Uganda presenting with mild abdominal symptoms.

According to the Ministry, the Congolese national traveled from Arua to Entebbe via a chartered flight and sought medical care at a private hospital in Kampala on 10 May 2026. She was treated and discharged in good condition on 14 May, after which she returned to the DRC.

A subsequent tip-off from the pilot who had airlifted her prompted further investigation by surveillance teams. A sample was retrieved and tested positive for Ebola Virus Disease.

The first two cases were identified among known contacts who were already under follow-up, indicating that the existing contact-tracing system is functioning effectively.

The Ministry of Health has urged all Ugandans to remain calm while staying vigilant. Citizens are encouraged to:
  • Observe recommended preventive measures.
  • Report any suspected Ebola symptoms immediately to the nearest health facility.
  • Seek early treatment, which significantly improves chances of survival.
