Two Teenagers Killed in Kisoro Landslide
Two children have died and their grandparents injured after a landslide buried their house in Kisoro District.

The incident occurred on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at around 5:00am in Nyabiyonga Village, Kibumba Parish, Murora Sub-county, following heavy rainfall that triggered soil movement on a hillside.
The deceased have been identified as Brenda Musoni, 14, and Esari Mujawimana, 12, both pupils and residents of Bukerahe Village in Chibumba Parish.
According to police, the children had been sent by their parents during the school holidays to check on their grandparents, where they had been staying.
While the four occupants were asleep, the house was partially buried by a landslide, causing the two children to suffocate.
The survivors, their grandparents Benon Mulema, 70, and Avelina Mbaboneye, 60, sustained minor injuries and were rushed to Chahafi Health Centre for treatment.
Kigezi Region Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident and said the bodies were retrieved with the help of residents. He added that the scene was documented and postmortem examinations were conducted.
Police also noted that investigations are ongoing, while warning residents in hilly and landslide-prone areas to remain alert, especially during heavy rains.
