Two Kiswahili tabloids, Rai and Tanzania Daima, have been identified as the most notorious in negative publicity to political parties participating in the ongoing election campaigns compared to other newspapers.

Synovate company client services manager Jane Maale said this in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday at a press conference, when presenting a report on the trend of media coverage during the election campaigns in the country.

Maale said research conducted by Synovate between July and September this year showed the two newspapers had most negative coverage compared to other media outlets, whereby Tanzania Daima's negative reportage stood at 6 per cent and Rai at 26 per cent.

She explained that during September, the politics coverage increased compared to August whereby 28 per cent of newspapers covered peace issues, 12 per cent education, 21 per cent corruption and environmental issues 1 per cent.

Maale explained that women featured less compared to men in election campaigns and the only women, who got huge coverage were First Lady Mama Salma Kikwete and the wife of Vice President Dr Mohamed Shein, Mwanamwema Shein.

Responding to a question on what recommendations Synovate had on the media election campaigns coverage she said the media outlets needed changes in their coverage.

"Other countries are using research findings to make decisions. Therefore, Tanzania needs changes in media coverage to reach that stage," she explained.

    Is SYNOVATE really serious?

Where is UHURU PUBLICATIONS and DAILYNEWS ambao wamediriki hata kutoa utabiri kuwa Dr. Slaa hawezi kushinda wakidai hii ni 1995 dejavu, au watasema hiyo haikuwa ni July to September? While it fell during that time of their research!!!!!!!

UHURU, CHANNEL TEN na TBC1 pamoja na DAILYNEWS are the most politically biased, as far as I am concerned, followed by RAI, MTANZANIA na JAMBO LEO.

I don't know whether SYNOVATE senior staff had attended the same schools of grooming "independent thinkers and actors." the way some of us did..

If they did, then they should tell us they are under whose political leash to twist and distort facts in such cavalier manner?
