The Tooro Kingdom has assured its people that the continuity of the Crown is secure following the death of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
In the message announcing the King’s passing, Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki said the late monarch left behind a Prince who will be his heir.
In the message announcing the King’s passing, Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki said the late monarch left behind a Prince who will be his heir.
“The continuity of the Crown is assured. His Majesty leaves behind a Prince as his heir, whose identity will be formally revealed at the appropriate time, in accordance with the traditions and customs of Tooro Kingdom,” the Prime Minister said.
The assurance comes at a significant moment for the Kingdom, where questions surrounding succession have historically attracted attention, particularly when many believed a reigning monarch died without an immediately identified male heir.
King Oyo’s succession is therefore expected to follow the established traditions and customs of the Babiito royal clan, with the identity of the Prince to be formally announced at the appropriate time.
The announcement comes as Tooro begins mourning the 34-year-old monarch, who ascended the throne in 1995 at just three years old and went on to reign for nearly 31 years.
