The Washington Post: Tz Democracy dies in darkness

Kiukweli inasikitisha sana tena sana, watu wakiuwawa, ukiuwa mtu believe me your killing the nation, hauwi mtu bali unaua maendeleo ya taifa,... YOU CAN KILL A MAN BUT YOU CAN'T KILL AN IDEA... ni ukweli kuwa moto haujawahi kuzimwa kwa moto, moto huzimwa kwa maji.

Magufuli has faced growing accusations by rights groups and others of being intolerant of criticism since he was elected in 2015. Live transmission of parliamentary debates has stopped, and opposition rallies have been banned until the next election cycle in 2020.

DODOMA, Tanzania — Gunmen shot and badly wounded Tanzania’s most outspoken opposition figure Thursday near his home in the capital, the government said, in an attack that shocked the East African nation known for its relative peace and stability.

Lawmaker Tundu Lissu of the Chadema party, who recently faced criminal charges after he called President John Magufuli a dictator, was wounded by an unknown assailant in Dodoma, said Home Affairs Minister Mwigulu Nchemba.

Lissu was shot in the stomach, leg and arm, said Dr. Charles James, a regional medical officer. A statement from the opposition party said the lawmaker was “seriously wounded.”

Police have launched a manhunt for Lissu’s attackers, said Gilles Muroto, the Dodoma police commander. He said more than one gunman occupied the vehicle from which the shots were fired.

Lissu, who also leads Tanzania’s lawyers’ association, had appeared in the national assembly earlier Thursday and apparently was being driven home when the attack occurred.

On Twitter, Tanzania’s president said he was saddened by the shooting and said he was praying for Lissu’s rapid recovery. The ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi, condemned the “brutal and unnecessary incident.”

In July, Lissu was criminally charged with using abusive language after he called Magufuli a dictator over alleged attacks on the opposition and the media.

Magufuli has faced growing accusations by rights groups and others of being intolerant of criticism since he was elected in 2015. Live transmission of parliamentary debates has stopped, and opposition rallies have been banned until the next election cycle in 2020.

In a statement, Amnesty International urged Tanzania’s government to investigate the attack and “reassure Tanzanians and the world that this shooting was not politically motivated.”

“This cowardly attack on one of Tanzania’s most fearless and prominent politicians raises concerns about the safety of all dissident voices in the country, at a time when space for dissent is quickly shrinking,” the group’s deputy regional director Sarah Jackson said.
While we pray for a quick recovery of Tundu Lissu, However it is insincere to cast aspersions toward PRESIDENT Dr. John Pombe Magufuli.

Whilst the Washington post is entitled to its opinions, the TRUTH is,
there is NOTHING that is shrinking in Tanzania except the shrinking of CORRUPTION and the lords of the same are SCARED and are trying to divert our attention from CORRUPTION to Tundu Lissu.

Notably when you try to connect the dots on the timing of the shooting..

Was is it COINCIDENTAL or PRE PLANNED?
When the report on MINE and MONEY MISAPPROPRIATION was being released to the public???????

Therefore the excerpts from The Washington Post should be IGNORED totally.
such aspersions are wrong and misleading!!

Every Tanzanian is EAGER to know WHO these CRIMINALS are that shot Tundu Lissu.

Mean while, how are the streets expected to be safe while the very first response we get is that unknown people are involved in crimes?

Like, when are we going to seriously consider the importance of street CCTV cameras?
At least we'll be hearing that there are some footages of suspects! Some leads or something!
This is 21st century and so is the crime intelligence.
Some people have guts to shoot at a powerful politician in daylight!
People have guts to kidnap and kill kids!
Like this is not only scary but an insult to the police force unless otherwise.
We need street cameras,we need more training to our police,we need the police to do their work!
We need a secured Tanzania.A peaceful one.For crying out loud!

Tuwe wawazi tu..jmp alipanga kumuua Lissu ili asikosolewe...huu upuuzi akiundeleza tutaingia mitaani kutafuta haki yetu

Umenena vizuri mkuu, pamoja na kusema kwamba ni watu wanataka kuleta uchonganishi dhidi ya serikali and to our beloved president, but have you seen and read the letter that was submitted yesterday by the spokesman from CCM to the public, the letter was written 07/August/2017, je watu pengine wakisema hili tukio lilipangwa mapema ila ni mipango tu ilikuwa haijafanikiwa mapema nani atakaa, coz ile barua inazungumuza mengi sana, kwa mtu kama Lisu ambaye amekutana na changamoto nyingi kwa sababu ya kuikosoa serikali. Who Planned this myself i don't know, lkn pia siamini kama maadui wa serikali na rais Magufuli wamefikia hiyo hatua ya kutaka kuua watu ili ionekane kwamba serikali ndiyo inahusika.

So according to you, political rally are taking place, those unknown people who hijacked Roma have been known, Ben Saanane has been found alive, those who invaded Clouds FM have been arrested, the unknown person who threatened Nape with the gun has been apprehended ect.
Nakupenda Tanzania.

We are very hungry and angry,
The right to demand. freedom to speak!
We used our mouth and pen,the truth to speak

They used guns and bullets, to kill the truth!
Always pushing the trigger, the bullet to speak...

The message they sent, the bullet will tell
That we need more guns and bullets, the truth to speak.

For them democracy is a gun, patriotism is the bullet
Killing and violence is the peace they want!

THE BULLET WILL TELL

shige2 could be one of the govt officers who tries to pretend not seeing what is happening on the grounds of this country used to be known as the heaven of peace. It is true, every Tanzanian is praying to his God for Lissu's fast recovery. We know that even a killer can attend a funeral for the man he killed if managed to escape unnoticed. So, praying for Lissu does not excuse those who are responsible to ensure peace to their subjects. Our national figure, the Late Mwalimu Nyerere once said "mfichaficha maradhi kifo kitamuumbua", literally meaning, if you hide your sickness death will put you to shame. While continuing with fight against CORRUPTION, the safety of all Tanzanians and our visitors should be of priority number 1. The happenings of incidents similar to that of Lissu have increased latterly and they don't deserve shinge2's "...there is NOTHING that is shrinking in Tanzania..." Hell NO!, piece is shrinking very drastically. What shinge2 is trying to hide, as taking from Mwalimu, will bring tragedy to our country.

The government should balance its effort in all social areas she tries to address, but safety of its people and everyone entering our country should not be underestimated for it has greater impact on economic and social aspects.

shinge2 should note that, here in JF you are addressing Tanzanians, East Africans, Diasporas, people who wish us well, AND NOT the Washington post.
