The Dark Side of Partying in Kenya: Prostitution in Nairobi.

Alot has been said about this: the world's oldest profession and alot has been said about it in Kenya. But most people do not know that Kenya is actually a prime location for sex tourism with it having gained it's dubious title of sex tourism hot-spot of Africa. And you can actually confirm that for yourself here.

And there is also this resource that you can check out which has Kenya ranked slightly lower than Netherlands the irony… In one country, prostitution is legal while in the other, it is illegal. I hope you get the point. Kenyans like the horizontal tango. ALOT! And we go as far as to invite, promote, tolerate foreigners coming to Kenya just for sex.The saddest thing about this is the fact that we have also begun exporting our Waheshimiwa to go and sample some of their lecherous ways to countries such as Netherlands:

So I decided to take a walk around Nairobi and sample some of what is on the menu in form of "sushi". And this is a beginners guide to prostitution in Nairobi:
First off, there are 3 tiers of prostitutes/ commercial sex workers:

  • street walkers (the living dead) – these are the prostitutes from the lowest tier. They are ratchet and unsophisticated, will drug you or attack you. These poor creatures are the ones often paraded for the cameras when police decide to look like they are working and not just collecting bribes or robbing people. Sometimes though, when they graduate, they get to a 3rd rate brothel like the one at Odeon, Sommerset.
  • gentleman's clubs hostesses (brothel prostitutes) – these are the ones for whom you pay top dollar for because they operate in respectable environments. These gentleman's clubs also double up as stag party venues and here you can catch site of your ocassional MP or mid-level manager
  • escorts – honestly, I have only gotten to know about these from my omoNaija uncles and according to them, some of Kenya's top socialites double up as escorts. In this tier, sex is optional (at an added fee) and most of the clientele are West African men and White foreigners. The training ground for this particular tier is places such as Black Diamond, Gypsy's and Skyluxx. For these, you have to pay a premium. When they are in the prime of their professional life, the playground is Sankara, Tribe, Kempinski and Level 8 Bar.

Now let us begin with the living dead in Nairobi:

The living dead are in a word ugly. Nay, Fugly. Look up the meaning to that word. They are for people in a bind; need to have an itch scratched but lack the scratch for beautiful call girls.

They can be found all over the Westlands, (Muthithi Rd) CBD and Ngara (around Stima Plaza) and Hurlingham. In the CBD prices range from 200 at Sabina Joy to 1,000. They are amateurs who charge per "shot".

The CBD call girls are not to be messed with. They are middle aged and mean. These are the ones who will stab you at a moments notice.

The Westlands call girls are more pricey and ask for between 1,000-3,000 depending on the clients. These call girls however are more affable.

In Ngara, the call girls are generally cheaper and ask for 500 -1,000 depending on the client.
The Hurlingham prostitutes are more attractive but also cost more. Here they are a mix. They are either Cushitic or Bantu or even Nilotic and to be honest I was tempted to go deeper -under cover ofcourse- with my investigation but oh well…
