Thirty-eight passengers travelling from Tanzania to Nairobi were on Wednesday robbed off their money and other valuables.

Gangsters posing as passengers attacked the bus from Mwanza near Nakuru Town.

Police said three smartly dressed men attacked the passengers at Mbaruku area, on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway in the early morning hours.

Area police boss Johnston Ipara said the gang had boarded the bus in Kericho Town.

At gun point

He said the gangsters ordered the driver at gunpoint to drive towards Soysambu ranch where they robbed the passengers off Sh186,000, some Sh1.3 million in Tanzania currency and 16 mobile phones.

Police officers on patrol swung into action and arrested one suspect near Shiner Boys School just a few kilometres from the scene of attack.

Some Sh51,000 was recovered from the suspect and a bus ticket indicating that the suspect had boarded it from Kericho.

This is bad news.

Buses from Mwanza to Dar usually leave Mwanza at around 2pm, get to the Sirari border in the evening and travel through Kenya at night to get to the Namanga border in the morning. So yes it definitely was at night. Mimi namlaumu dereva wa basi because from the story, alibeba abiria wa ziada from Kericho who turned out to be thugs. In Kenya, all night vehicles zikijaza abiria zinaenda kwenye kituo cha polisi, abiria wote pamoja na mizigo yao wapekuliwe ndipo waendelee na safari. Its risky kubeba abiria njiani ambao hawajapekuliwa na polisi.

Aloo unaona vile ndugu zako wanataabu namna hii?...Ama is this the 'hustling' ambayo unapenda
kutuambia hapa?

Hustlin by any means.. Weekend utawapata wanatanua pesa zao, ukiwauliza watakwambia, ''the end justifies the means''... Hii inaingia tu kwa crime statistics..

How terrible...I am sorry for those passengers. As always a few thugs will give everyone a bad name. It's time we explored that ban on night travel.
This not hustling this is robbery and any decent Kenyan gets affected by it.
