Police have arrested two suspects in an intelligence-led operation targeting a wave of violent robberies by panga-wielding gangs in Kawempe Division and surrounding areas.
The operation, conducted on April 21, 2026, along Tula Namere Road in Wakiso District, followed numerous complaints from residents about escalating attacks involving armed assailants breaking into homes.
The suspects, identified as Serwanja Najjib and Derrick, were apprehended after security personnel conducted a search based on gathered intelligence. Preliminary findings indicate that the duo was part of a group involved in violent home invasions, where victims were attacked with pangas before being robbed of their property.
During the arrest, officers recovered several items believed to have been used in the crimes, including pangas, housebreaking instruments, and two suspected stolen mobile phones. A motorcycle, registration number UGD 081D, which the suspects were using at the time, was also impounded. Police noted that the motorcycle’s number plate had been deliberately concealed, raising further suspicion about its use in criminal activities.
Residents in Kawempe and neighbouring communities have in recent weeks raised alarm over increasing insecurity, with reports of night time attacks and robberies becoming more frequent.
