DAR ES SALAAM (Reuters) - Tanzania wants economic growth of 5.7 percent in 2010 and is on target to reduce headline inflation to below 6.0 percent by June, the central Bank of Tanzania (BoT) said on Tuesday.
East Africa's second biggest economy grew by 7.4 percent in 2008 and the government forecast expansion 5.0 percent last year, BoT said in its latest monetary policy statement.
"During 2009/10, the government intends to achieve the following objectives: to attain a real GDP growth rate of 5.0 percent in 2009 and 5.7 percent in 2010," central bank said.
"The gradual return of food supply to normal in the region is expected to calm down food inflation and facilitate return to low headline inflation in the coming months."
