Between January and April 2025, several countries have updated their visa policies:
Tanzania
Effective January 30, 2025, Tanzania ceased issuing visas on arrival. Travelers must now obtain an electronic visa (e-Visa) prior to departure through the official government portal.
Israel
Starting January 1, 2025, Israel introduced the Electronic Travel Authorization system (ETA-IL). Citizens from 99 visa-exempt countries are required to apply online for electronic authorization a few days before traveling. This system aims to enhance border security and streamline entry procedures.
Tunisia
As of January 1, 2025, Tunisia implemented stricter entry requirements. Visitors, including European nationals, must present a passport valid for at least three months, replacing the previous allowance for EU citizens to travel using just a national identity card for organized tourist trips.
Thailand
Thailand expanded its electronic visa system's accessibility globally on January 1, 2025. Eligible travelers can now apply online, reducing administrative hurdles and supporting Thailand’s goal to attract more international tourists.
Cambodia
From January 1, 2025, Cambodia reduced the cost of its electronic visas. Tourist e-Visas now cost $30, down from $36, and business e-Visas are reduced to $35, down from $42. This initiative aims to revitalize Cambodia’s tourism sector.
United Kingdom
The UK implemented its Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system in stages
- January 8, 2025: Non-European nationals from visa-exempt countries must obtain an ETA.
- April 2, 2025: European citizens are also required to have an ETA.
Applications are completed online, linking directly to travelers’ passports.
Additionally, the UK introduced stricter financial requirements for visa applicants, effective February 1, 2025. These updates impact international students, skilled workers, family visa applicants, and tourists, increasing the financial threshold required for visa approval.
Namibia
Starting April 1, 2025, Namibia introduced visa-on-arrival requirements for nationals from 31 countries, including the United States, Canada, and several European nations. Travelers from these countries must pay N$1,600 (approximately $88 USD) for a visa upon arrival, valid for stays of up to three months. This policy aims to foster fair diplomatic relations.
Brazil
Effective April 10, 2025, Brazil reinstated visa requirements for citizens of the United States, Canada, and Australia, ending a six-year visa waiver policy. This change aligns with Brazil's traditional policy of reciprocity. U.S. travelers can apply for electronic visas beginning April 10.
New Zealand
In early 2025, New Zealand launched the Active Investor Plus Visa program to attract wealthy foreigners. The program includes two tracks:
- Growth Category: Requires a $2.88 million investment over three years in local businesses or funds with only 21 days of physical presence.
- Balanced Category: Demands a $5.6 million investment over five years in more passive instruments and 105 days of presence.
This initiative aims to stimulate New Zealand’s economy through meaningful investments.
