Tanzania receives ODA in three modalities, including General Budget Support (GBS), Basket Funding and Project Funding. Partners that contribute to General Budget Support include the African Development Bank, Canada, Denmark, European Commission, Finland, Ireland, Japan, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom (DFID) and the World Bank.



Germany commits 352bn/- to support national development plan

The governments of Germany (led by Angela Merkel)and Tanzania (led by Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete) yesterday signed a bilateral development agreement amounting to euro 176 million (equivalent to 352bn/-) for the national development plan for the years 2012/2014.

Addressing reporters yesterday during the signing ceremony, Ramadhani Khijjah, permanent secretary in the ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, said the two governments signed the minute following two-day negotiations held on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Head of the German delegation Dr. Ralph Mohs said the support was a new strategic focus of his government on the growth enabling infrastructures in line with the five-year Development Plan and MKUKUTA.
"Tanzania is among the largest beneficiaries of German development cooperation worldwide…it is essential to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of our cooperation. Together we want to achieve demonstrable results, it's critical to increase accountability especially in times when money is tight," Dr. Mohs said.

Tanzania remains aid dependent: assistance from donors financed 28% of the government budget in 2010/11. There are over 40 active donors in a wide variety of sectors, from multilaterals such as the World Bank to proactive civil society organisations and emerging donors such as China, India and Brazil. The UK has been one of the biggest bilateral donors in Tanzania. Between the year 2010/2011 and 2014/2015 Tanzania will be receiving about £ 670,000,000 (equivalent to TZS 1.7 Trillion).
