The Real Madrid midfielder's outstanding volley didn't just put them ahead against Turkey, but also scrawled his name in the record books

Luke Modric made European Championship history for Croatia with his fantastic volley against Turkey on Sunday.

With 41 minutes of the Group D clash gone, the Real Madrid midfielder gave the Croatian contingent at Parc des Princes something to jump for joy at by hitting a looping ball 25 yards out into the bottom corner of the net.

By doing so, the 30-year-old, became the first Croatian to score in two different Euros finals, having also scored the opening goal of Croatia's campaign eight years ago against Austria.

Modric's goal was also the first time that Croatia have scored from outside the 18-yard box in a European Championship.

Euro 2016 is Croatia's fifth tournament since separating from Yugoslavia in the mid-1990s. They are drawn against Turkey, Spain and Czech Republic in Group D.

Tony 25, Modric 30? We really really stole those 2, and still the world only sees what we paid for the Bales & the Crs. Such amounts can not get you even a mediocre like Ramsey today.

Rumour:

Villarreal have come to an agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of winger Denis Cheryshev.

The Yellow Submarine have agreed to acquire 50% of the Russian’s rights, for which they will pay the European champions between €7m - €8m, meaning that if Villarreal sell the player to another club in the future Madrid will receive half of any fee.

Although relations between Villarreal and Real Madrid have been strained in recent times, with the latter accusing the other of not informing them Cheryshev was suspended from the Copa del Rey, it appears any rough edges have now been smoothed out.

The 25-year-old spent the 2014-15 season on loan with Villarreal, scoring 4 goals in 26 La Liga appearances, before spending the 2nd half of the 2015-16 campaign on a similar arrangement with Valencia.

However, his desire to return to Villarreal seems to have tipped the balance in their favour, along with the lure of Champions League football next term. [Source Mundo Deportivo]
