The entire Santiago Bernabéu gave Francesco Totti a standing ovation when he came in. Living legend.

Madridistas always appreciate class. Anybody that deserves an ovation, will get one. It don't matter what club they are playing for. Remember Ronaldinho? That part about us always makes me proud.

Keylor Navas has endured eight Champions League games without conceding a single goal. The Real Madrid keeper becomes the first Champions League goalie to achieve such a feat in their first 720 minutes of the prestigious tournament.

UCL Round Of 16

Real Madrid 2-0 AS Roma [Agg (4-0)]

MATCH ANALYSIS:

Real Madrid becomes the first team to book a place in the UCL quarter finals this season with a win yesterday against Roma.Let's take a look at our tactics and player performances in general.

DEFENCE:

Danilo has definitely started to settle well in the Spanish Capital and his defending has been a lot better than his earlier performances although he still needs to work hard going forward and learn to do better crossing, Carvajal provides Real Madrid a much better threat going forward and due to this Carvajal is better than him ATM.Pepe got a nod ahead of Varane and i thought it was a risky decision to make due to the pace Roma had on the break but Pepe was exceptional tonight and kept Perotti and Dzeko in his pocket throughout the game.Ramos has also started to get back to his old form gradually after a season hindered by constant injury crisis. He did well.Marcelo wasn't really sharp tonight, hardly tried to stop Salah on the left side and left all the responsibility of guarding the left flank on Ramos and Casemiro, even Bale tracked back sometimes to try to win the ball back for Marcelo. This is obly due to the fact that we don't have a cover for LB position and Marcelo has to play every game whenever he is fit to play and itbis affecting his effectiveness significantly, his crossibg has been poor too lately.PEPE was the defender of the night.

MIDFIELD:

Casemiro started for Real Madrid tonight in place of Isco and did very well for the 80 minutes he was on pitch, ran his heart out for the team, helped his CBs and full backs in winning the ball back as well as tries to win the ball higher upfield in the opposition's half ,the reason which led to a Ronaldo tap in against Celta. Modric as usual was bright and did well,So did Kroos. Both of them looked comfortable with Casemiro playing beside them. But our midfield trio was still unable to create significant threat going forward and still lost crucial balls which would have costed us goals had Keylor Navas not been in the form of his life or if Salah and Dzeko had finished off their clear goal scoring opportunities. Real Madrid still has defensive lapses and will play for them against better oppositions if they don't work on them.

ATTACK:

James was just Ok although he scored a goal, but he was kept silent throughout the game by Roma.Ronaldo was good and scored a very good goal tonight.Bale was sharp too but he is coming back after an injury so it will take sometime for him to start firing on all cylinders.I'd like to appreciate Lucas Vasquez who played really well tonight, came on from.the bench, assisted the first goal and almost assisted another had Ronaldo's shot been on target later. It's fair to say that Vasquez did more than both James and Bale today and he should be given more time too.

Real Madrid maintained another clean sheet yesterday and it was basically all due to Keylor's brilliance and poor finishing on part of Roma's forwards.Real Madrid team had clear instructions to take shots on the goal whenever they could today by Zidane although none of Real Madrid players came close to scoring from their shots but I hope it pays off in future.

We have qualified for the top 8 in UCL for the sixth consecutive season and the quest for silverware is still on,congrats to all of you.

Spalletti:
"2-0 away, 2-0 at home - Real Madrid deserve to go through"

"Over the two legs we didn't play with the necessary belief to get the result."

Marcelo really needs to work on his positioning, last night was a disastrous performance by his standards he left so much space on the left flank that Ramos had to cover whole of the left side, we were so lucky that we didn't conceded.
