The best deadline day signings: Ronaldo, Ramos and Diego

Since 2000, more than 100 players have arrived in LaLiga on the last day of the transfer window, most notably Ronaldo Nazario and Sergio Ramos moving to Real Madrid while Diego switched Wolfsburg for Atletico Madrid in 2011.

Deadline day is a time in which teams become urgent and sometimes desperate to grab a bargain, perhaps even paying over the odds to nab a star to improve their squad.

Bringing in a player with moments left is sometimes not always a good thing, but in 2002 Ronaldo arrived and become part of Los Galacticos, going on to prove doubters wrong.

Last season in Spain, 18 deals went through on the final day, most notably Diego Lopez to Espanyol, arriving on loan from Milan and becoming a hit with supporters.

Meanwhile, Valencia took a chance on signing defenders Eliaquim Mangala and Ezequiel Garay from Manchester City and Zenit Saint Petersburg, respectively.

If we go back to the beginning of this century, players like Alvaro Negredo (Valencia), Salva Ballesta (Malaga), Ivica Dragutinovic (Sevilla), Adrian and Filipe Luis (Deportivo), Thiago Motta and Diego (Atletico) have also moved on the chaotic day.

Ruben De la Red, Esteban Granero and Pedro Leon (Getafe), Florent Sinama Pongolle (Recreativo), Nikola Zigic (Racing Santander), Felipe Caicedo (Levante), and Pablo Osvaldo (Espanyol) can also be considered decent acquisitions as the clock ticked down.

A special event will take place in the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu next Monday, as Real Madrid name Fernando Alonso as their newest honorary member.

The Formula One driver is a keen fan of Los Blancos and his support will now be formally recognised, following on from the gesture made after the Cardiff Champions League final when he was gifted a section of the net.

The ceremony will take place at 13:00 CET next Monday, after the driver's participation at the Italian Grand Prix, and club president Florentino Perez will also be in attendance.
