Radio Frequency Identification(RFID) is an automatic identification method relying on storing and remotely retrieving data using devices called RFID tags or transponders. The technology requires some extent of cooperation of an RFID reader and an RFID tag.An RFID tag or micro chip is an object that can be applied or incorporated into a product, animal or even a person for the purpose of identification and tracking using radio waves.

The U.S Food and Drug Administration(FDA) has approved the use of RFID chips in humans. Some business establishments have started to chip customers. This has provoked concerns into privacy of individuals as they can potentially be traced whenever they go by an identifier unique to them. There are concerns this could lead to abuse by an authoritarian government and lead to removal of freedoms. With the war on terrorism high on the agenda, there is every possibility that we will soon witness a micro chipped world population.Make no mistake about it,this is high on the agenda. Are you ready to sacrifice your personal freedoms and privacy in the name of war on terror?

May be we should worry about privacy after we have enough food on the table...

90% of Tanzanians do not have electricity, so its only a minority of you that are in areas where RFID readers can be installed efficiently in the first place.

So worry not, u r not going to be tracked in the foreseeable future. :)

And the article is kind of purposely misleading, trying to scare you to death.

But i think one should not only consider the cons of such a system, but also its pros.

While u think about ur privacy, think also about how many lives will be saved if everyone of us has an RFID chip implanted in them that contains their medical records. A medical officer in an emergency room can quickly accesses information about the patient medical history, blood group, allergies, etc.

And I believe the scientists and engineers working on this systems are busy addressing the little worries, while we spend our time raping our education system.
