Puppy survives 12 mile journey in car engine

A puppy survived a 12 mile drive after getting trapped inside a car engine.

The Jack Russell, called Betty Boop, was found lodged under the Audi A4's car bonnet by Gavin Juliette when he heard barking coming from inside his car following a trip to pick up his mother in law in Manchester, north-west England.

It is believed the puppy - who belongs to Mr Juliette's neighbour, Gary Rose - had climbed onto a plastic shelf in the engine before getting trapped between the pipework.

Mr Juliette, who was accompanied by his wife and son when they came across Betty, said: ''All we could hear when we got back was this yapping. Then I put my ear to the bonnet. I opened it and the little fella was just there glaring back at me, I couldn't believe it.

''I still don't get how it survived, with the heat in there and the fan spinning.''

Mr Juliette quickly fetched the dog's owner, who helped him dismantle the engine and free the trapped puppy.
