Police in Kira Division have recovered a three-month-old baby boy who was allegedly stolen from his family home in Kireka, Wakiso District, following a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of the suspect in Soroti District.
According to police, the incident occurred on May 5, 2026, in Kireka D Cell, Namugongo Division, after the child’s mother briefly stepped outside, leaving the baby asleep in the house.
Authorities allege that the suspect, identified as Brenda Amongin, had arrived at the home a day earlier to visit her cousin, Akunyo Sarah. She reportedly told family members that she had travelled from Kalaki District to Kampala to process a National Identification Card under the express service.
Police say that when the baby’s mother returned at around 2:00pm, she discovered both the child and the suspect missing, prompting an immediate search and police investigation.
Following coordinated tracking efforts, officers traced and arrested the suspect in Soroti District and safely recovered the infant.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect had allegedly deceived her husband into believing she was pregnant. Police further allege that on May 2, she asked him for money, claiming she was preparing to go to hospital for delivery.
Investigators believe the alleged abduction may have been part of an attempt to sustain the false pregnancy narrative.
The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to face charges related to child theft. Authorities say arrangements are underway to reunite the baby with the family as investigations continue.
