Kampala Metropolitan Police South, through Katwe Police Division, have arrested four suspects and recovered several motorcycles believed to have been stolen in different parts of the region.

The arrests followed intelligence-led operations targeting motorcycle theft and the dismantling and sale of stolen motorcycles as spare parts.

Police said the investigation began after information about a suspected stolen Bajaj Boxer, registration number UMA 2244MX, led to its recovery from Banturaki Purtaz, a resident of Wankulukuku Zone, Kabowa Parish, Rubaga Division.

During interrogation, Banturaki allegedly disclosed that he had previously stolen two other motorcycles.

Police said one Bajaj Boxer, UFH 005Y, was allegedly stolen from Nkumba and sold to Lukyamuzi Muminu and Abasi Mwesezi in Rakai District. Another motorcycle, UEQ, was allegedly stolen from Kigungu, Entebbe, and sold to a suspect identified as Mike in Wansaso Zone.

Following further intelligence, police raided Wansaso Zone and recovered the UEQ motorcycle with its number plate removed. Senyange Derric and Kagwa Ian were arrested on allegations of receiving the motorcycle and taking it to the suspected buyer.

On September 2, 2026, Crime Intelligence officers travelled to Rakai District, where they arrested Lukyamuzi Muminu. Police said he admitted purchasing the UFH 005Y motorcycle for Shs500,000 and, together with Abasi Mwesezi, dismantling it and selling it as spare parts.

Police also recovered number plate UFH 005Y, which had allegedly been hidden at Muminu’s ancestral home, as well as another Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, UDM 669Z.

Investigations are continuing as police pursue suspects still at large, seek to recover more stolen motorcycles and establish the wider network allegedly involved in stealing, dismantling and disposing of motorcycles.
