Tanga Company plans to produce 450MW DAILY NEWS Reporter Daily News; Friday,December 28, 2007 @20:03 TANZANIA Peoples Defence Forces (TPDF) auxilliary company, Nyumbu, in collaboration with Tanga based company, Katani Ltd, expect to generate 450MW of electricity by using biogas. The Ministry of Defence and National Service said in a statement today that power to be generated at Hale in Tanga and other centres would be added to the national grid to boost supply of the energy by the year 2017. The statement signed by the Minister for Defence and National Service, Prof Juma Kapuya, said at the moment Nyumbu oversees the biogas plant at Hale that generates 150KW. Katani Ltd expects to increase the capacity to reach one MW at every centre within 10 years and plans more centres that can enable them to lift the output to 450MW, said Prof Kapuya. Electricity at the Hale centre is being produced by using sisal leaves residues taken from a mill run by Katani Ltd that produces special papers, the minister said. Prof Kapuya also said in the report that his ministry has started a process of seeking partners to develop motor vehicle manufacturing industries in the country. Nyumbu also operates an automobile manufacturing industry which has so far managed to assemble and manufacture a total of 26 vehicles christened Nyumbu which are now being used in a number of military brigades in the country. The company is continuing with research on the vehicles with the aim of improving them to increase their efficiency and capacity and at the same time less costly, he said.
