A manipulated image purporting to show the front page of the June 16, 2026 edition of New Vision has been circulating on Whatsapp.

The altered version replaces one of the newspaper's top headlines with the words "Lukwago Playing Hide and Seek, What We Know So Far." The rest of the front page closely resembles the genuine edition, making it appear authentic at first glance.

In response, New Vision issued a public statement on its official X account warning readers that the image is counterfeit.

The newspaper clarified that the genuine front page carried the headline "Lukwago Arrested: What We Know So Far" and not "Lukwago Playing Hide and Seek."

In its statement, New Vision said:

"FAKE NEWS ALERT. Dear Valued Readers, A counterfeit front page purporting to be that of New Vision is circulating on social media. Please disregard this misinformation and rely only on official New Vision platforms and publications for accurate, verified, and credible news. We urge the public to be vigilant and avoid sharing unverified content. For credible updates, follow our official platforms."

A comparison of the two front pages shows that the counterfeit version alters only the highlighted headline while retaining the newspaper's branding, layout, photographs and other stories to make the forgery appear convincing.
