Tunachokijua(What we Know)
Uganda's Ministry of Education and Sports releases an official academic calendar each year, and any changes to term dates are communicated through official statements from the Permanent Secretary, not through unverified social media graphics.
Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports officially set the Second Term holidays for primary and secondary schools in 2026 from Saturday, 22nd August to Sunday, 13th September 2026, with reopening on Monday, 14th September 2026. These dates were announced by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda, and apply to all government and private institutions
Claim.
A viral image/Video on tiktok styled as an NBS TV "Live" news broadcast, showing Ministry of Education and Sports officials at a podium, with a headline banner reading: "ALL SCHOOLS TO REOPEN FOR THIRD TERM ON 9TH OCTOBER 2026" and a sub-headline claiming "The government has approved the reopening of all educational institutions for Third Term."
Findings.
No matching official announcement exists. The Ministry of Education and Sports' published 2026 school calendar states Term III begins 14 September 2026 and closes 4 December 2026 — not 9 October.
AI-image analysis. Jamiicheck Ran the image through Hive Moderation's AI-detection tool flagged it as AI-generated, consistent with visible tells in the image (inconsistent podium seal detailing, irregular hand and finger rendering, and mismatched text alignment typical of synthetic broadcast mockups).
No corroborating source. No credible Ugandan outlet (New Vision, Monitor, Pulse Uganda, NBS itself) has reported this statement. Genuine Ministry announcements of this significance are consistently picked up and cross-reported by multiple outlets this one is not. NBS via its news site NILEPOST has flagged the information to be false and misleading.
Verdict. FALSE / MISLEADING
The image is an AI-generated fabrication, not a genuine NBS broadcast or Ministry of Education announcement. According to the Ministry's official 2026 school calendar, Third Term for all pre-primary, primary and post-primary institutions began 14 September 2026 and is scheduled to close 4 December 2026.
