New documents have confirmed that Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa was never a student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and did not earn a degree from the institution in 2008.
THE FACTS:
Official Letter: In a letter dated September 14, 2026 (Ref: JKU/2/66/049), JKUAT Registrar of Academic Affairs, Dr. Aggrey Wanyama, confirmed to the Consumers Federation of Kenya (COFEK) that Barasa's name does not appear in the university's student or alumni records.
No Graduation: The university confirmed it did not hold any graduation ceremony in May 2008—the date indicated on the certificate Barasa allegedly presented.
"NOT GENUINE": JKUAT's verdict on the Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering certificate is unequivocal: "NOT GENUINE".
THE COVER-UP:
The university further revealed that these findings were previously communicated to both the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) for investigation and action.
COFEK Secretary General Stephen Mutoro is now demanding that EACC, EBK, and the Commission for University Education (CUE) publicly account for what they did with JKUAT's damning findings.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
Didmus Barasa built his political career claiming to be an engineer. JKUAT—his alleged alma mater—has now publicly stated he was never their student and the certificate he used is a forgery.
