The carrier sets its sights on sunny vacation destinations as the world gets ready to fly again

Lufthansa Group has announced plans to launch seven long-haul leisure services for summer 2022 under its newly branded Eurowings Discover subsidiary.

The routes include flights from Fort Myers, Panama City, Salt Lake City, and Kilimanjaro to Frankfurt; also flights between Munich and Punta Cana, Cancun and Las Vegas.

The flights will be available to book starting this week at lufthansa.com, and will be operated by Eurowings Discover, which the group says “is specialized in tourist travel from the Frankfurt and Munich hubs.”

Simpleflying.com reports that Lufthansa had originally planned to call its new long-haul leisure brand “Ocean,” but a rethink has seen the carrier launch as a spin-off to the Eurowings brand.

The report also says that the subsidiary will initially operate with three A330 aircraft, and will aim to compete with German charter carrier Condor.

Twice weekly flights between Munich and Punta Cana, Cancun and Las Vegas will launch in March 2022, as will thrice weekly services between Frankfurt and Fort Myers, and Panama City.

These will be followed by three flights per week between Frankfurt and Salt Lake City launching in May 2022, and twice weekly services between Frankfurt and Kilimanjaro starting in June 2022. This summer, the flight schedule already includes Mombasa (Kenya) with onward flights to the dream island of Zanzibar (Tanzania).

Earlier this year Lufthansa outlined plans to offer “the most extensive range of vacation destinations in years” this summer, with an increase in destinations from both Frankfurt and Munich.

The carrier is adding 20 new leisure routes from Frankfurt and a further 13 new destinations from Munich, with a “special focus” on routes to the Caribbean, the Canary Islands and Greece.

Located in Matemwe, on Zanzibar's northeast coast, the five-star resort will be set on the white-sand Muyuni Beach. All 250 rooms offer a cozy and relaxed ambience with a modern, comfortable style.

The resort will feature four distinctively different restaurants, a Beach Grill & Bar and the two bars (the Garden Pool Bar, the Main Pool Bar). The greatest show on earth

The Great Migration is arguably one of nature’s most magnificent spectacles. This annual movement on an epic scale of hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebra and antelope across the Serengeti to the Masai Mara in Kenya in search of more plentiful food and water sources as the seasons change, is the natural life cycle playing out on the plains of Tanzania.

The instinct to survive drives these mega herds towards better grazing, and in order to reach their destination, they must travel long distances and cross dangerous rivers, risking drowning as well as the crocodiles lying in wait. On the plains too, predators that maximise on the good hunting opportunities presented by mass game on the move also pose a threat. It’s nature at its most primal and dramatic – life and death hanging in the balance.

For our guests, this remarkable game viewing opportunity offers the privilege of witnessing the natural order of the wild in person – to see the delicate balance of the bush up close and recognize the fragility of life is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

Protecting the natural path

Singita Grumeti, a 350,000-acre piece of land adjacent to the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, was created in 1994 to preserve the natural migrational route of the wildebeest, as well as the biodiversity of this special region. In 2002, Singita’s non-profit conservation partner, the Grumeti Fund was granted the responsibility of managing the concession.
An integral part of the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem, its responsible management is key to protecting the home of the Great Migration. Here, our low-impact luxury ecotourism model is designed to allow guests to witness this miraculous natural occurrence, and in so doing, play a role in protecting it.

Singita’s migration destinations

Our five lodges and camps in this concession offer various ways to experience this annual phenomenon – from Singita Sasakwa Lodge, whose vantage point offers unparalleled views of the plains, to a front-row seat, traditional tented style at the exclusive-use Singita Explore. The newly redesigned Singita Sabora Tented Camp and earthy and contemporary Singita Faru Faru Lodge immerse guests in the plains via luxurious, but close-to-nature designs, and intimate engagement with their surroundings. For families and groups of friends, the exclusive-use Singita Serengeti House is a gracious African home and a sanctuary-like base from which to enjoy the action.

The Lamai triangle, which is situated on the northern banks of the world-renowned Mara River, is one of the key river crossing points in the herds’ journey from Tanzania to Kenya. Here you’ll find our sixth Tanzanian destination, Singita Mara River Tented Camp. This camp grants guests unparalleled access to the herds and a truly remarkable, light-on-the-earth way to experience this natural phenomenon.

Planning ahead

The migration remains one of the musts on safari travellers’ bucket lists, and as such, camps and lodges situated in good proximity of the movement of game are in high demand. It’s worth noting however that, while there are certain highlights – such as significant river crossings – the Great Migration is an annual movement of game, rather than a single ‘event’ and takes place over a series of stages, and months as the herds move from and through the Serengeti, towards the Masai Mara.

As such, there is game to be seen year round, depending on where the herds are in their journey. Our placement in the Serengeti means that the herds’ peak proximity to our lodges and camps occurs yearly between June and September. Due to demand in this season, the general guideline is to book approximately six to 12 months in advance of the time you want to visit.

Also something to factor in to your planning of this once-in-a-lifetime journey is that, being an entirely natural event dictated by weather and grazing availability, the timing is unpredictable to a degree and can differ slightly year on year. However, our travel advisors and experts are well versed in the migrational patterns and can offer helpful guidelines to assist in your planning.

Touching the earth lightly in the Serengeti

Singita’s portfolio of six lodges and camps in Tanzania means guests can experience the best of safari in the Serengeti. Each is unique, presenting a design, atmosphere and setting reflective of its surrounds.

Singita Mara River Tented Camp, on a riverbend in the Lamai Triangle (a remote region of the Serengeti) is situated with arguably one of the best vantage points for nature’s greatest spectacle – the Great Migration. Bordered on the north by Kenya and on the south by the majestic Mara River, this verdant region of northwestern Tanzania is an escarpment-backed short-grass plain and one of the most beautiful spots in the entire Serengeti National Park. Here the annual movement of countless game across the plains in search of better feeding grounds sees massive herds of wildebeest traverse the Serengeti en route to Kenya’s Masai Mara. In order to get there, they have to attempt several river crossings, one of which is over the Mara River, allowing guests of this camp unequalled proximity to the action.

An intimate relationship with the wild

To honour this incredible wildlife spectacle, Mara River Tented Camp has been designed to blend seamlessly with its environment. A permanent tented camp, its open and airy design encourages continuous engagement with nature. And its total immersion within the iconic Tanzanian landscape, as well as a dramatic vantage point of the river itself, encapsulates the very essence of the wild, and embodies the true spirit of adventure.

But although it’s rooted in traditional safari in the sense that it’s inspired by the wild, the concept of the tented camp here has been luxuriously updated for the modern guest, and offers a perfect hybrid of raw untouched nature, and seamless service. So, despite its origins in authentic tented travel, this camp wants for nothing in terms of refinement – it offers the very best of grounded, close to nature appeal and absolute comfort and style. A way to experience the elemental power of nature without sacrificing any of the convenience of luxury travel.

The majestic Great Migration and some of the best year-round game viewing on the planet makes Singita Mara River Tented Camp a memorable travel destination

Classic meets contemporary

A sense of balance too has been struck with the design of the camp itself. Drawing on a classic foundation, it heroes natural textures and traditional tented materials such as canvas, leather, and stone, but modernized and elevated with bold accents and motifs that draw on primary Masai-inspired colours and contemporary African art. Objects and artworks by craftsmen and artisans update the space and situate you in your surroundings.

High-design but low-impact, Singita Mara River Tented Camp is the epitome of sustainability. Our reverence and respect for this unspoilt wilderness informed the design in its entirety. Aside from being created to celebrate its surroundings and embrace the untouched 98,000 acres of spectacular landscape it rests on, the camp was conceived with the aim of being as light on the earth as possible. As a result, it operates entirely off the grid, relying on a custom-designed solar system for its power. Recycled and natural materials were also used wherever possible to minimize its footprint.

A balance of traditional tented materials and contemporary African accents and artworks gives this camp the best of both current and past safari style

Immersion into the African bush

Activities at Mara River Tented Camp too, revolve around celebrating the beauty of this untouched piece of paradise. Game drives into the pristine bush will garner sightings of a vast array of game – this part of Tanzania’s varying terrain means you’ll enjoy sightings of everything from big cats and bat-eared foxes, to Maasai giraffe, elephant, buffalo, the rare Colobus monkey, and of course wildebeest.

Back at camp, leisure activities are also designed for natural immersion. The scenic outdoor bar, adjacent to a plunge pool much-needed to cool off from the heat of the African sun, offers an idyllic spot for sundowners, while wellness treatments – which can be enjoyed outdoors – are designed using ancient wisdom and local ingredients, ensuring a truly holistic experience of all that this beautiful part of the world offers.

Tanzania to host major regional tourism expo

Source: Xinhua| 2021-07-17 00:30:09|Editor: huaxia

DAR ES SALAAM, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania will host the East African Community (EAC) regional tourism expo in October, the country's Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Damas Ndumbaro announced Friday.

The tourism expo will be held in the northern tourist city of Arusha, Ndumbaro told a virtual meeting of the EAC Council of Ministers for Tourism.

Ndumbaro said Tanzania offered to hold the tourism expo in Arusha after Burundi stated that it was not ready to host the regional tourism expo for 2021.

The regional tourism expo, the first of its kind to be held in the east African region, is aimed at promoting tourism attractions available in the EAC member countries of Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan.

Ndumbaro said the regional tourism expo will also help to encourage tourism stakeholders, especially the private sector, to work out strategies aimed at reviving the sector that has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The pandemic has resulted in the collapse of many tourist companies and the subsequent lay-offs of employees," said the minister. Enditem
