The real news was that ALL of the top Rwandan military officers, including the supposedly infamous Colonel Bagosora, were found not guilty of conspiracy or planning to commit genocide. And Gen. Gratien Kabiligi, a senior member of the general staff was acquitted of all charges! The others were found guilty of specific acts committed by subordinates, in specific places, at specific times – not an overall conspiracy to kill civilians, much less Rwandan-Tutsi civilians.

This raises the more profound question: If there was no conspiracy and no planning to kill ethnic (i.e., Tutsi) civilians, can the tragedy that engulfed Rwanda properly be called “a genocide” at all? Or, was it closer to a case of civilians being caught up in war-time violence, like the Eastern Front in WWII, rather than the planned behind-the-lines killings in Nazi death camps? The ICTR judgment found the former.

jMali where is Gen Kabiligi now? You cannot sit here and water down the genocide against tutsi as a case of "civilians being caught up in war time violence"?!? Dude! you can't be this daft. You seem to be intelligent just misled. Just because some top brass walked away from the ICTR it does not mean they were not guilty of complacency in the genocide against the tutsi. If you knew anything about the genocide you'd know that it was meticulously planned months ahead of time, executed with precision just like the final solution but at an even more expedited rate. Did kagame's royal family protest then? did tutsi's say anything about it?
Then wahutu revolted in 59, took over, and used the same IDs for affirmative action based on census statistics NOW ndio unaona eti discrimination? wahutu walichofanya ni kufanya balancing tu ya access to services, kama shule zilikuwa sawa kwa kila mtu, level ya huduma zilikuwa sawa n.k na sio kama nyinyi mlivyokuwa wafalme ambapo wahutu walitengenezewa shule zao inferior, kila kitu chao inferior...

if you call ICTR a joke and its an international court, what do you call GACACA COURTS? mahakama ambayo mshitakiwa haruhusiwi kuwa na wakili! where hutu judges were sacked for allegedly being involved in the genocide too!, where all victims are tutsis and all defendants are hutu! mahakama gani hii?

Another problem was that the Gacaca courts offer no statutory rights to legal defense. But the Rwandan government argued that in the case of the Gacaca courts it was not necessary to grant the right to fair trial, or provide a lawyer for the defendant. Most of the crimes were committed in public, and so any false testimony would have been unmasked immediately, the government claimed.

"The majority of people were proud to kill, and they did it in broad daylight. We also had eye witnesses. You do not need to be a law student to know whether the testimony given by witnesses is true," the justice minister argued.

Human Rights Watch also criticized the Rwandan government for exempting former soldiers of the Rwandan Patriotic Front, (RPF) from prosecution. Many victims would therefore never see justice. The RPF is the current ruling party in Rwanda.

FACT : interahamwe was funded by wealthy tutsis with connection to ugandan-tutsis exiles including RPA and kagame, and its PRESIDENT at the time of genocide, who led and coordinated the killings of tutsi was a tutsi himself, ROBERT KAJUGA, who pretended to be a hutu! Another problem was that the Gacaca courts offer no statutory rights to legal defense. But the Rwandan government argued that in the case of the Gacaca courts it was not necessary to grant the right to fair trial, or provide a lawyer for the defendant. Most of the crimes were committed in public, and so any false testimony would have been unmasked immediately, the government claimed.

"The majority of people were proud to kill, and they did it in broad daylight. We also had eye witnesses. You do not need to be a law student to know whether the testimony given by witnesses is true," the justice minister argued.

Human Rights Watch also criticized the Rwandan government for exempting former soldiers of the Rwandan Patriotic Front, (RPF) from prosecution. Many victims would therefore never see justice. The RPF is the current ruling party in Rwanda.

FACT : interahamwe was funded by wealthy tutsis with connection to ugandan-tutsis exiles including RPA and kagame, and its PRESIDENT at the time of genocide, who led and coordinated the killings of tutsi was a tutsi himself, ROBERT KAJUGA, who pretended to be a hutu!
