Assume a Product Development Manager of Bank T and his team design and release Product X in the market. Baada ya kuingia sokoni, the product performs well kiasi cha kuvutia wateja wengi. Some months later, the same Product Development Team design and release another product, say Product X2. Product X2 nayo inabamba kiasi cha kuvutia wateja wengi tu. Baada ya kuona mafanikio haya ya Product X2, Product Development Manager na timu yake wanapiga makofi na kufungua Champagne kama ishara ya kujipongeza kutokana na mafanikio ya Product X2. Hata hivyo, this Product Development Team haijafanya utafiti wa kutosha kujua where do Product X2 customers come from!!

Unapo-design a new product wakati tayari una product portifolio kwenye kampuni yako; technically tunatarajia hiyo new product ivutie wateja kutoka nje. Na inakuwa more respected endapo miongoni mwa wateja watakaovutika ni from your compititors. Fighting for market shares is one of the strategic goal in any business. Product development team isipokuwa makini, inaweza ikajikuta ina-design na ku-release product ambayo badala ya kuvutia wateja toka nje na kuwa compititive tools against your compititors; inakuwa a compititive tools against your own product portifolio! Hapo ndipo Product Development Team ya Bank T ilipokuja kufungua Champange kufurahia mafanikio ya Product X2 bila kujua customers wa hii product wame-shift from Product X!

Similar situation can happen even in other decission making areas. Take a look to a media company which own (say) Three (3) TV stations. But once for all, naomba kwanza nijisalimishe kwa kueleza wazi kwamba am not familiar in media industry; hivyo nisisurubiwe nitakapofanya makosa ya kitaalamu. But pamoja na udhaifu wangu huo, i still guess that one of the strategic goal for any TV station ni kuvutia watazamaji wengi zaidi (ikibidi hata wa nchi nzima!) na ku-create loyalty kwa watazamaji hao. Sasa assume; baada ya utafiti mmegundua kwamba miongoni mwa vipindi vinavyovutia zaidi watazamaji ni tamthilia. Na kwa kufahamu hilo, mme-zunguka huku na kule na kupata tamthilia tatu ambazo ni kali ile mbaya kiasi kwamba hata watazamaji wanazikubali kwamba ni best TV drama ukizilinganisha na zile zinazooneshwa na vituo vingine. Kv kampuni yako inamiliki 3 TV stations, then kila kituo kinapewa series moja kiasi kwamba inapofika saa 3 usiku, all of your TV stations ( from the same media company) zinakuwa na kipindi (cha one hour) cha Tamthilia! Na kv tamthilia zenu ni kali basi inapofika saa tatu hadi saa nne, watazamaji wengi wanakuwa wamegawanyika; wengine to TV1, wengine to TV2 na wengine to TV3-zote from the same media company! Hata hivyo, si kwamba huyu anayeangalia TV1 haipendi tamthilia iliyopo TV3, bali hawezi kuangalia two TV stations at a time! Sasa kwanini umfanye mteja wako aliye willing kununua Fanta Orange, Fanta Passion na Spareta alazimike kununua Fanta Orange peke yake?! Practically, itakuwa umeamua kuwagawanya watazamaji kuangalia TV1, TV2 na TV3 kuanzia saa 3 hadi saa4! Maana yake nini; you don’ mind endapo after saa 4 hao watazamaji wata-switch to other TV stations owned by your competitors from other media company!! What if tamthilia hizo zingerushwa; say TV1 saa 2 hadi saa 3; TV2 saa 3 hadi saa 4 na TV3 from saa 4 hadi saa45 such that for almost three consecutive hours; majority of viewers unawa-keep buzy kwenye TV stations zinazomilikiwa na kampuni yenu tu? Business is all about FITINA bana ilimradi ziwe ni fair practices! And this, can apply to other programs as well. Why (The Boss of Meadia Company) should you make your own TV stations compete for viewers? Mnajenga nyumba moja, ya nini kugombea fito? Can’t you reaarrange yourself to make everything great for your compnay? As stated earlier, am not farmiliar with media industry; lakini hivi haiwezekani kufanya hilo nililoshauri?!
