A cross section of Muslims loyal to Mufti Sheikh Zubair Kayongo, has urged its followers to shun all government functions, over maginalisation.
Their anger stems from the few ministerial positions offered to Muslims. At a meeting convened by the College of Eminent Sheikhs at Kibuli last Thursday, they resolved: We are aggrieved and extremely dissatisfied with the way President Museveni distributed ministerial posts as we hardly got any influential positions besides one Cabinet minister and four state ministers despite an enlarged Cabinet, read their statement.
Besides Cabinet, they also fault government for minimal representation in statutory bodies, and commissions. The meeting, chaired by Sheikh Obedi Abdu Kamulegeya, raised concern over the slots of Vice President and Prime Minister, which they said only go to other religions.
Whereas the sheikhs were angry with the rejection of Mr Nasser Sebagala as minister without portforlio, Sheikh Kamulegeya, distanced himself from the outcry. Asked if the resolutions bind the Old Kampala sect, Kamulegeya said, it applies to all Muslims.
Efforts to talk to presidential press secretary, Tamale Mirundi were futile as his phone was switched off
