Yoweri Kaguta Museveni arrived at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on Tuesday morning ahead of his swearing-in ceremony, where he was set to take the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of President for a fresh five-year term.
The 81-year-old leader arrived at about 11am in a convoy of more than 10 vehicles and proceeded directly to the saluting dais to inspect an armed forces parade as part of the official inauguration proceedings marking the transition from the 2021–2026 term into a new mandate expected to run until 2031.
During the parade inspection, Museveni was accompanied by his son and Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, while heavily armed personnel from the Special Forces Command (SFC) maintained tight security around the president.
However, the absence of First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni drew attention among attendees at the event. Janet Museveni, who has traditionally attended major state ceremonies including previous inaugurations, was notably missing from the proceedings.
The First Lady was last seen publicly more than a month ago. She has attended at least the last three presidential inaugurations, although she was absent during Museveni’s 1986 assumption of power.
The inauguration ceremony at Kololo attracted thousands of supporters, many dressed in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party colours, alongside regional and international dignitaries.
Officials indicated that at least 15 Heads of State were expected to attend the event together with diplomats and representatives from across Africa and beyond.
Museveni will be expected to officially take the presidential oath, extending his decades-long leadership under a new five-year term.
