President Yoweri Museveni is today expected to officially assume office for another elective term through a constitutional swearing-in ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.

Under Article 105 of the Constitution of Uganda, a President-elect must take and subscribe to the prescribed oaths before assuming office. The ceremony will be presided over by Chief Justice Flavian Zeija, who will administer both the Presidential Oath and the Oath of Allegiance before the nation and invited guests.
Justice Flavian Zeija assumed office as Chief Justice after his appointment by President Museveni just a few months ago in January this year and subsequent approval by Parliament replacing Alfonso Owinny Dolo, Zeija also had just been previously promoted to the position of Deputy CJ in 2025, As head of the Judiciary and the highest judicial officer in Uganda, one of his key constitutional duties is presiding over the swearing-in of a President-elect.
During the ceremony, the President-elect places his hand on the Constitution and swears to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution, uphold the sovereignty and integrity of Uganda, and serve the people faithfully. The Oath of Allegiance commits the President to loyalty to Uganda and its laws while executing the duties of office.
The inauguration ceremony follows a strict state protocol coordinated by the Office of the President, Parliament and security agencies. Upon arrival at Kololo, the President-elect is received by military commanders before inspecting a guard of honour mounted by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
Chief Justice Flavian Zeija will then lead the official oath-taking process in the presence of heads of state, diplomats, Members of Parliament, religious leaders and other invited dignitaries. After taking the oath, the President signs official instruments confirming assumption of office.
The ceremony is also marked by military parades, cultural performances, gun salutes and the playing of the national anthem. Following the swearing-in, the President is expected to deliver an inaugural speech outlining the government’s priorities for the new term.
Museveni’s swearing-in comes nearly four decades after he captured power in 1986, extending his leadership as one of Africa’s longest-serving presidents.
