Uganda’s First Lady and now former Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni has publicly confirmed her recovery from a serious health crisis that began in March 2026, using her 78th birthday message to share a testimony of faith, gratitude, and healing.
In a heartfelt message posted on her official X account, Mrs. Museveni reassured Ugandans that she is well and recovering, while emphasizing her belief in God's intervention during her illness.
“It’s me, Janet Museveni. It is a confirmation that the God I talk about is a living God. He is not a myth, He lives!”
She thanked Ugandans for the prayers offered during her absence from public engagements, beginning with her husband, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
“I must therefore thank Uganda, beginning with Mzee, who has prayed with the whole nation. I praise God for leading us to know Him. Thank you all for coming out publicly to pray for me,” she wrote.
Mrs. Museveni also expressed gratitude for the many birthday wishes and continued prayers, saying they made her feel deeply loved and supported.
The First Lady's statement came a day after President Museveni disclosed details of her health scare in a birthday tribute. According to the President, on March 21, 2026, Janet Museveni suffered a life-threatening illness, which he described as an attack by “Sitaane” (Satan).
He credited both divine intervention and the efforts of medical professionals for saving her life, adding that she is now recovering well.
Mrs. Museveni's prolonged absence from public duties had fueled speculation and concern among Ugandans. However, the President's revelation and the First Lady's own message have now provided clarity and reassurance regarding her condition.
Her birthday message not only served as a personal update on her health but also as a public testimony of faith, marking what she described as a journey of recovery through prayer, medical care, and God's grace.
