Matches against both would-be title rivals have long been considered key to United's hopes but Ferguson believes his side are well placed to win those games as well.
"The thing that puzzles me is they (the media) keep saying Arsenal and Chelsea have got to play us still, like we're going to lose them...why shouldn't we win those games?" he told Sky Sports 2.
"As I said to the players, forget all that nonsense. Just try to win your games and you'll be all right, keep your heads and don't get carried away.
"There're only four games left and the way they are going about their business gives them an outstanding chance (of success)."
Ferguson also had praise for match-winner Javier Hernandez, who continues to exceed all expectations in a prolific first year in England.
"We didn't expect that (level of performance)," admitted the Scot.
"We thought a year of introducing him to the club and adapting to English football and strengthening him up.
"He's done all those things already. He comes in every day at nine and he's the last to leave, this boy is very dedicated."
Everton boss David Moyes rued a missed opportunity to take something from the match.
"We've come up against a really good Manchester United side and just at the end the lapse gives them that opportunity," he said.
"Today for long periods we held a really good team out, who look like they might be champions.
"I thought we'd just about weathered it and maybe we could see if we could try and get a goal, but that's what happens when you open up."

TFF yalaumiwa Sakata la Samata Send to a friend Saturday, 23 April 2011 14:52

Vicky Kimaro

Tibaijuka azishangaa klabu haziombi eneo la uwanja Send to a friend Saturday, 23 April 2011 14:51

Kalunde Jamal

TFF:Tunataka makocha bora Send to a friend Saturday, 23 April 2011 14:47

Sweetbert Lukonge

Winning against gunners is easy, we just put nani, park and rooney on the pitch. LOL

Winning against blues shouldn't be too hard either, seeing as how we beat 'em 3 times this year.

Besides, a draw against both will do us just fine.

you go SAF! why indeed shouldn't you win those 2 matches? United has already played cheksli 4 times this season and won 3 of them, and have beaten arsenal as well as bounced them from the cl last year home and away. no one is conceeding victory to either side, but the title is uniteds ti lose, not chelski's or arsenal's to win.

'Nendeni mahakamani' simba wang'aka Send to a friend Saturday, 23 April 2011 14:46

Vicky Kimaro

Remove a £35m striker from a team and the logical assumption would be that the side would struggle to score, especially if his deputy was a midfielder who did not command a fee when he joined the club.
Adversity has tended to galvanise Liverpool during Kenny Dalglish's brief reign, however, and the message that one man's absence is another's opportunity was reinforced in improbable fashion. Minus the injured Andy Carroll, Maxi Rodríguez was promoted from the bench. He promptly took over the goalscoring mantle, a hat-trick doubling his tally for the season and meaning the Argentinian proved more prolific within the space of 73 minutes than either Carroll or Luis Suárez have done in their short careers at Anfield.
Admittedly, the winger was an indirect replacement, starting on the left of a midfield diamond as Dalglish reconfigured his team. Nevertheless, it enabled him to reveal a hitherto disguised predatory streak. The opener was evidence. For all the power contained in the shot Jay Spearing fizzed at him, Ben Foster ought to have held it. Instead, he spilled the ball. Rodríguez reacted swiftly, directing his shot beneath the sprawling goalkeeper.
Foster erred for Liverpool's first goal, but was irreproachable for the second. The same, however, could not be said of a Birmingham defence with a hard-earned reputation for frugality. They were prised open too easily, Suárez latching on to a José Reina punt that Raul Meireles flicked on. Foster produced a double save to deny first the Uruguayan and then Dirk Kuyt before the Dutchman turned sharply to drill in the third attempt. Birmingham's problems were compounded when Stephen Carr landed on Foster, hurting the goalkeeper.
His replacement, Colin Doyle, was beaten when Rodríguez doubled his tally, volleying in Suárez's cross after Meireles released the £22.8m striker with a wonderful crossfield pass. His hat-trick was secured when he followed up after Suárez had a shot blocked. The rout was complete when substitute Joe Cole scored a fifth, aided by poor goalkeeping from Doyle.

Manchester United edged closer to a record 19th English title thanks to Mexico striker Javier Hernandez's late winner against Everton on Saturday while Liverpool routed Birmingham 5-0 to keep alive its hopes of European football next season.
Hernandez rose high to head home at the far post in the 84th minute to secure United a 1-0 victory, leaving his side needing seven points from the last four games to guarantee the title.
"The way we're going about our business gives us an outstanding chance," United manager Alex Ferguson said.
Chelsea, which hosts West Ham later Saturday, and Arsenal, which visits Bolton on Sunday, are nine points behind United with a game in hand.
Maxi Rodriguez scored a hat trick for sixth-place Liverpool at Anfield.

As a Liverpool fan I'm obviously pleased with the result plus performances from fringe players, however Birmingham were shocking. Lucky for them that Wigan, Blackpool and Wolves all failed to win today.
Still with Tottenham's run-in, 5th isn't out of the question.

Pressurised the hell our of birmingham, squeezed and snapped at them in their own half until the game was killed off.
Lucas is looking very accomplished now. Reads the game better than anyone else on the pitch more often than not, these days.
Well done spearing, suarez -he was raging he didn't get a goal but his performance was superb, a constant thorn.
Another twelve yards in total hat trick for a liverpool player.

Birmingham didn't show up. But thumping un-ambitious teams has often presented Liverpool with problems. Not a bad result considering half the first team is out.

A great win; well played to all involved.
While I cannot deny the second tier wingers of Rodriguez and Cole (sub) played well today, it's worth noting the structure Dalglish used. Suarez, Kuyt, Rodriguez and Miereles played almost like four offensive midfielders today; all pressing, all closing down, all swapping positions and making runs in each others space. In this respect, there is a lot of similarities to the four of them. In my view, this doesn't remove the fact Rodriguez and Cole are not in the first choice XI when everyone is healthy, and for me Liverpool simply can't sustain a wage bill at this time where players coming off the bench are earning £90,000 per week.
Poulsen, Konchesky, Ngog and Jovanovic should be moved on: there can be little doubt of this. However if Rodriguez and Cole are happy to fight for a place in a deeper squad next season (and take the chance they play no more than they do now), then in this formation they may be worth keeping for another season. Somehow I doubt it.

fourth place finish is not inconceivable..on a roll, bolstered goal difference today, too, always comes in handy. It only takes Man City and Spurs to take their eye off things. They are under pressure to qualify for CL, LFC aren't - nobody expected them to be even sixth not long ago. Could be a very interesting end to the season

There was an an interesting comment in the Setanta Sports coverage:
"Is the reason Kenny Dalglish hasn't been formally appointed because he's not Damien Comolli's first choice manager?"
I haven't seen any visible split between the two in public. Comolli's opinion is highly regarded by the owners; perhaps he is pushing them to wait until the deck chairs move in the summer? Three wins and a draw against the current top four since Kenny took over is compelling evidence. Like most people, I can't see any other reason why the owners wait.

First win over Brum in the league since November 2003 so thats a monkey off the clubs back! Suarez is clearly not going to score as many goals as he did in the Dutch league (where defending is forbidden) but that hardly matters so smart is his all round game. Could well be the king of the assist.
As for the kids well another nice game from and for them. It'll be interesting to see what happens once Johnson and Kelly are fixed.

    WHO scored HOW many??
Nah, to be fair, Maxi is a solid player who has played his part in some of our tougher games this season (United and Chelsea), so I'm pleased for the lad.
Kuyt, gotta love him, he knows how to scores goals.
Still, 5-0 over Birmingham, i'm gonna be enjoying MOTD tonight.
Bodes very well for next season.
Kenny: give that man a contract for however many years he wants. then double it.

    RickyRedCardo 23 April 2011 5:27PM

I suppose Maxi Rodriguez showed people what he can do when his first touch doesn't let him down. Joe Cole being embarrassed to get mobbed for scoring his goal was really funny. Meireles and Suarez deserved to score as much any anyone. I thought Spearing had a bad first half, at least based on his recent form. And Lucas was just toying with their offense all day. I was hoping to see Coady come on for Spearing or maybe Wilson for Robinson but at least Dalglish used all three substitutions.

It sure is, but maybe they wanted to make sure he can also motivate the team to do the business against so-called weaker opposition - remember the points dropped against Wigan, West Brom, West Ham. I reckon Kenny ticked that box too, today.

Useloss dross. Any manager would fail to get results with the likes of Kuyt that can't hit a ball right, Rodriguez that does not know how to play the ball, a load of past-it has beens. No wonder that Hodgson can't get them to play. Going for tthe sentimental favourite who has not managed in 20 years and has no idea about the modern game certainly looks stupid. And then spending 20 million on a striker from the dutch mickey mouse league and 35 million on a clumsy oaf of a striker from Newcastle. It is obvious that Liverpool are heading nowhere fast but the second division.
    <Big grin>
CYA suckers. Perhaps this season already-as mentioned above, 4th place does not look that out of reach- but certainly next. season.
Seriously, we could-shoud?- have been playing for the league had we not persisted with Hodgon who should have been removed in October if not earlier.

"There was an an interesting comment in the Setanta Sports coverage:
"Is the reason Kenny Dalglish hasn't been formally appointed because he's not Damien Comolli's first choice manager?"
I haven't seen any visible split between the two in public. Comolli's opinion is highly regarded by the owners; perhaps he is pushing them to wait until the deck chairs move in the summer? Three wins and a draw against the current top four since Kenny took over is compelling evidence. Like most people, I can't see any other reason why the owners wait."
Heard that comment too, uninformed bullshit from somebody who obviously has no grasp of some basic business principles. Why would they announce he has the job while negotiations are ongoing? Until the ink is dry there is no announcement to make, the important thing is that he's #1 choice and they are discussing terms, as they are with Steve Clarke.
Unless said "pundit" has proof to the contrary, using the delay in announcement to speculate on Commoli/Dalglish, power struggle conspiracy theories is stupid beyond belief.

I'm going to hate admitting this, but I'd rather see Liverpool in the top 4 under Dalglish playing entertaining football with good players than City. From a red Manc, well done red Scousers.
we shall endeavor to oblige sir. City rivalries tend to confuse things rather a lot.

I think they're just waiting until the end of the season to announce it.
    Nothing more than that.
Kenny was appointed until May as a caretaker, so why announce anything sooner?

Managers (or managerial/coaching teams) make all the difference. Players are all much of a muchness at this level, with the odd exception. The next time anyone says 'the players have to stand up and be counted' when a manager's plan goes wrong (e.g. Capello in World Cup) I'll punch them. Dalglish = proof of the power of personality and motivation.

Frankly I think FSG already know that the fans simply won't accept/tolerate anyone other than the King. He wants the job he's currently doing so well permanently - fret not, he'll get it.
Have to rue the soft losses to Blackpool and WBA - else the Champions League would be on!
Rupertagain - I'd love to agree with you, but LFC still a wee way off the strength in depth the scum have. Primarily, LFC lack pace in certain areas - and def. need at least one proven quality winger, be he Young, Downing or whoever. Sure, Raheem looks one of several real prospects, but he simply isn't physically strong enough for the PL yet. He has a whole career in front of him, so no rush.

Also, Dalglish = proof that you have to match the manager to the team. Hodgson is obviously a top manager but was the wrong fit for the club. Looked out of his depth and confused from the start. Dalglish knows LFC better than anyone, having built much of the modern club himself.

27 points in 14 games for Kenny and Steve and for once, there was no letdown against a lesser-ranked team.
Kuyt and Meireles are just so selfless and hard working. So great to have them, even if they don't really have true positions in the squad.
Young fullbacks give the ball away but look fairly solid back there. Perhaps the cries for new CBs will die down a bit now that we are getting some decent fullback play? I don't miss Johnson one bit and hope he becomes a utility player/winger next season. When we have two teenagers defending better than you, what more is there to say.
Maxi and Cole -- thanks for the goals and the memories. Now please go so we can use your combined salaries to pay for 4-5 young players with greater potential.
Suarez again had a bad game and still created goals, chased well and was disruptive. If he ever gets in form, watch out...

No, I'm sorry but it just doesn't work like that. Tottenham ride a razor's edge pretty much every game and if we are going to go back and get points we think we missed, they will do it as well. You have the points you have and that's all.
We are on Champs League form since January, though, no doubt!

Does anyone know where I can get the best odds on Liverpool getting that fourth spot? It's by no means highly likely, or even likely, but as a casual punter , 5 - 1 would be good dividends.
Cause I've got some feelings in me waters that the odds , though not quite even, are a lot shorter than that.

Accomplished win. Again the young lads defending very well again today, showing a maturity beyond their years.
Where is KingOfTheHill nowadays? What a Spud!

@ndc123: If this is Suarez having a bad game, I can't wait for him to shape up!
