Schafer to leave Cologne post

Cologne coach Frank Schafer has decided to step down at the end of the season.
Schafer made the decision himself "after careful consideration" and revealed at a press conference that "personal reasons" were behind his decision to step down.

He added he hopes "that the team will be able to concentrate fully on the aim of avoiding relegation" now they know his final decision.
Schafer took over from Zvonimir Soldo in October and guided the club away from the bottom three, although they are not yet mathematically safe.
He was recently offered a two-year contract to remain in charge, but he has now decided to turn down the offer and he will return to coaching the reserve team from next season.
"We had tried everything to keep him," said the club's president Wolfgang Overath.
"We fully respect his decision."

Butt: I warned van Gaal

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Hans-Jorg Butt has revealed he warned Louis van Gaal he was making the wrong decision by dropping him.
Van Gaal decided in January to replace Butt in the Bayern goal with the reserve-team goalkeeper Thomas Kraft, and it was a glaring error by the 21-year-old in the 1-1 draw with Nurnberg over a week ago which cost the Dutchman his job.

Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats

And Butt said such an end was predictable and that he had tried to prevent it.
"I could not understand the decision because I had played one and a half years at a high level and won titles with the club," said Butt.
"I had a long talk with Van Gaal (in January). It was never about convincing Van Gaal to change his mind because he was already convinced of what he was doing.
"But I told him my opinion and my reservations."
The 37-year-old has been around long enough to know that thrusting a 21-year-old onto the biggest stage in German football was a huge gamble.
"To move up from the third division to the FC Bayern goal is extremely tough," he told reporters at Bayern's training ground.
"Especially when you are only 21. We are not a feeder club and when you are goalkeeper here, you cannot afford to make a single mistake.
"Neither I nor Oliver Kahn would have been able to stand between the posts for Bayern at that age.
"It is a process. Oliver had gained lots of experience with Karlsruhe (before joining Bayern) and experienced many situations."

I liked the Stripes but, sadly, there were few good memories attached to their most recent incarnation. The new ones look good, classic and tasteful. I all for change at this time, players, unis, and staff.

I think the two things that bothered me the most about Van Gaal was that he absolutely loved to play people out of position and it didn't matter if it was a midfielder going to central defender or a winger going to LB he didn't care and this would happen week after week. Bayern had so many changes to the back four this season that it is a miracle the defense was able to do anything at all.

The other thing about Van Gaal that burned me up was that he would not indentify the weak links in the defense and bring in more talent, he thought that his wisdom was enought to get Bayern thru thick and thin and that just exploded in his face.

Spiderman, Butt explained why he considered it a mistake. Even the great Oliver Kahn had to pay his dues before defending the net for Bayern Munich. LVG made a litany of errors. Goalie change was just one of them.

I would think Butt---being a competitor----would say dropping him would be a bad idea. I mean what else would he going to say? "Hey LvG I am rubbish please replace me?" 😉 LvG was sacked for the reasons Dex said.

I couldn't agree more Dex. Van Gaal's fixation on himself was the biggest problem.

I don't think we've heard the last of Kraft though. He's still young and could become very good. Remember, at 21 years old Oliver Kahn was more consumed with chasing trim than being a quality keeper. Much can change in 4 years.

What a glaring error and Im talking about the fact that replacing Butt with Kraft didnt cost LvG his job but it was a part of the reason. LvG being LvG cost him his job. However, as good as Kraft is, he wasnt better than Butt and that had shown to be another glaring error.

Vidal targets Bayern switch

Bayer Leverkusen defender Arturo Vidal has revealed he would like to follow coach Jupp Heynckes to Bayern Munich next season.

Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats

Chile international Vidal is the one player Heynckes would like to take with him when he moves south in the summer and the 23-year-old has now commented on the speculation by revealing his preference.
"It would be spectacular to play in Munich under Jupp Heynckes," he told the Bild newspaper.
"I really want to play for Bayern."
However, Leverkusen are not keen on selling him and have this week offered him a new contract.
His current deal expires in 2012, but the club do not want to risk losing him on a free transfer in 12 months and have therefore made him an offer they believe he cannot refuse.
"We have gone through our pain barrier for him," said Leverkusen's general manager Wolfgang Holzhauser.
"It is really starting to hurt us, but at the end of the day, we want to keep the player."
Leverkusen's director of sport Rudi Voller, who has constantly ruled out any player following Heynckes to Bavaria, is not worried either way.
"The situation is quite simple - he has a contract until 2012 and the club decides."

@Rot - young strikers, eh? Even though he must be Milan's most prized possession, I have this sneaking feeling that someday Pato will be in red... Am I crazy?? FCB rarely splash the cash that this would require, but my intuition tells me otherwise. Hmmmmm...

I think that Pranjic and Altintop will move on to other clubs, Tymo I would like to see stay and Kroos can come off the bench. Klose would stay if he got more playing time, but I don't know if that will be possible. And it would not hurt for Bayern to look at some younger strikers because who knows what Olic can still do after his knee injury?

I agree with tum, as I really don't see the need for Vidal and he has a tendancy to pick up cards in stupid situations too with reckless fouls.

I am praying that Bayern can land somebody like Kompany and Alex at central defense we really need guys like that. And if Uli can get Coentrao that would be great because he could support Ribery very well on the left side offenslively.

We are going to have a very active transfer window! As of today Report indicate that Neuer will be on his way to munich, Bayern will attempt to sign BOTH Coentrao and Van der Weil. Lastly, Vidal is going to sign with us at the seasons end! Also rumors: Hazard, Kompany, Alex, Howedes, and Hummels/Subotic (but these are less concrete!)

Tz reported that we ha edeal in place for van der Wieal for 10 million. Bild reported today that we signed Neuer for roughly 20 million and now Vidal wants to come. ideally, we need to get rid of Ottl, breno, and Pranjic, and maybe Altintop We need to keep tymo. The new jerseys look really nice by the way.

LOL and I thought I was the minority who didnt like the guy. But youre right cpink, the squad will get reshaped, I would say other than Basti, Lahm, Mueller, Ribery, Robben and Neuer, oops, er I mean whoever the new GK will be, will have to be worried about being starters. I see Ottl, Altintop, Breno going and if we get in a LB I see Conento going out on loan though I really hope not since he would still be a great sub if needed. Tymo I hope would stay as a sub but I dont think he likes riding the bench so he might be gone as well. I guess we shall see how Jupp reshapes the team soon enough.

Remember that Jupp will want to reshape this team. As will the brass at Sabener Str. Maybe they'll be letting some regulars go next year... Ottl, Tymo, Altintop, Breno - who knows? The squad will have a different look, and maybe Vidal (who as an opponent, I kind of despise) fits into the coach's plan.

Ngassa: Niko tayari kurudi Yanga Send to a friend Thursday, 21 April 2011 09:27

Mrisho Ngasa
