Torres has flopped in front of goal since his £50million move from Liverpool, drawing a blank in each of his four matches for the Premier League champions.
Manager Carlo Ancelotti claimed after Tuesday night's win over Manchester United that he does not ask his strikers to score.
But Torres accepts he was not bought to fire blanks and is confident that once he bags his first for the club, the floodgates will open.
"I know I'm here to score goals," he told Chelsea TV. "It's the job of the striker, so hopefully I can score the first and I'm sure it will be the first of many."
Torres has previously insisted it was always going to take time for him to settle at Stamford Bridge.
He revealed he is still finding his feet but believes he is beginning to adapt to Chelsea's style of play and is building up his match fitness following an injury-plagued 2010.
"Trying to settle here, but much better, much better fitness," he said. "I felt the other day against Man United very good, sharp.
"So, waiting for the first goal and excited about that possibility.
"Hopefully, I can score against Blackpool."

I wonder what was his logic for that statement. Lemme see, focal point of the team, my position is striker, currently Drogba sits on bench after my arrival, bought for 50m by a team having a subpar season..mmm I must be here to score goals.
This has the potential of becoming the next Shevchenko deal. With that moolah Chelsea could have strengthened 2 positions considerably with Hulk and Sakho with enough left over for Roman girlfriend.

Mentally Torres is a genius, in reality he is more like sloppy seconds. The only floodgate he will open is Rom's flood of tears when he realizes just how much he pissed away in this deal.

Haha, unfortunatley that's what's ging to happen eventually. Chelsea will sack Ancelotti if he will not bring the CL home. He is out of reach fpr the BPL title, the only hope he has is the CL competition. I wish this guy a lot of luck as in my opinion he is a good manger, but come on since you have already spent 50 mil on Torres at least try to reorgenise the team and make position changes.

Hey PhilHotSpur, I can't wait for the Tottenham to spank Milan. You guys showed some first rate moments at San Siro. I hope this time Bale will be fit and you can kick Milan's **** 2-0. I hate Robinho he thinks he is better or greater than any club. Anyway, good luck to you guys.
