Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has damaged his hamstring and will be sidelined for the next fortnight.

The 26-year-old damaged his hamstring in Thursday night's 7-0 win over Malaga, a match in which he scored a hat-trick to take his goals tally for the season to 37.
He has appeared in every league game so far this season, with his goals helping his side retain a semblance of hope of reducing the seven-point gap between themselves and Barcelona.
But he now looks set to miss Sunday's game with Racing Santander and the subsequent meeting with Hercules, as well as the second-leg of Madrid's Champions League tie with Lyon, which is currently level at 1-1.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Cristiano Ronaldo has a Grade 1 muscle injury on the left biceps femoris muscle (hamstring). The player will miss 10-15 days. His recovery is being monitored."
The Portugal international, who left the pitch at his own request after scoring his third goal on Thursday night, could target the Madrid derby on March 19 to make his return.

Barcelona captain Carles Puyol is back in training ahead and looks set to be fit for Tuesday's Champions League clash with Arsenal.
Puyol has been out since the middle of January with a knee injury and missed the 2-1 defeat at the Emirates earlier this month, but his participation in the second match is all the more important because team-mate Gerard Pique is suspended.
Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats

The veteran defender trained normally on Thursday, but is unlikely to be risked against Real Zaragoza in the Primera Division on Saturday.
Pique, though, will start against Zaragoza before making way in the European clash.
The former Manchester United defender has been forced to deal with increased media attention of late, due to his well-publicised relationship with Colombian singer Shakira.
Nevertheless, the 24-year-old says his private life has no bearing on his performances on the pitch.
"Performances do not depend on one's private life," he said.
Pique says he is devastated to miss the Arsenal game, but believes his central defensive partner Puyol will be available.
"I am totally gutted to miss it, but I'm an optimist and I think Carles will be ready - he still has a few days ahead to get fit," he said.
"If I had to bet, I would bet that he would be ready for the game against Arsenal."
Barcelona remain seven points clear of Real Madrid following the Primera Division's midweek matches.
Barca beat Valencia 1-0 at Mestalla in a hotly-contested encounter and will be expected to brush aside relegation-threatened Zaragoza on Saturday.
"There are only 12 matches left, but that means there is a lot to play for still," Pique said.
"If we slip up, Madrid will be right there, so we have to carry on picking up good results."
Goalkeeper Victor Valdes is set to miss out, but Jeffren Suarez is available again for Barca and coach Pep Guardiola is expected to take his place on the bench after being released from hospital on Friday following a hernia problem.
Zaragoza moved out of the relegation zone following a 2-1 win at home to Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday.
That victory leaves Javier Aguirre's side two points clear of the bottom three with 12 games remaining and the Mexican coach believes his side will secure survival.
"I see the glass half full and the team keen to move away from the bottom and leave our bad run behind," he said.
Striker Ikechukwu Uche scored the winner against Athletic after recently returning from a long spell on the sidelines.
"The feeling I have after scoring again is one I just can't explain," the Nigerian said.
And Uche says Zaragoza will be ready for the match against Barcelona.
"It will be difficult, but we'll go there to compete," he said.
"The victory over Athletic will help us to prepare for the game against the best team in the world."
Keeper Toni Doblas is set to stand in once more for the injured Leo Franco.

Mourinho ridicules Pellegrini's retreat to Malaga

Jose Mourinho ridiculed Manuel Pellegrini's decision to coach at Malaga after being fired by Real Madrid at the end of last season.
Mourinho stoked Thursday's Spanish league matchup between the clubs during a hostile news conference on Wednesday, when he also lashed out at "hypocrites" who attacked his criticisms over Spanish league scheduling.

Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats

Mourinho replaced the Chilean coach after guiding Inter Milan to a treble of trophies last season, including the Champions League.
"The same thing couldn't happen with me that happened with Pellegrini because if Madrid fires me I won't go coach Malaga, I'd go to a big club in England or Italy. I'd have no problem going back to coaching a big club," Mourinho said.
Mourinho applauded Pellegrini's league results in his only season with Madrid, which came runner-up to Barcelona by three points despite setting a club record total of 96 points.
But Mourinho was quick to point out that Pellegrini's results in the Champions League and Copa del Rey - it failed to get out of the last 16 in Europe for the seventh straight year and lost to a third-tier club in the domestic cup - told the whole story. Mourinho has guided Madrid to the Copa del Rey final - where it will play Barcelona - and his team has the away-goal advantage going into the return leg of its last-16 Champions League game with Lyon.
"In the cup we have done better. In the Champions not yet, since we can still lose at home against the same opponent we did last year, and with the league I've got my own philosophy," the Portuguese coach said. "Finishing second means you're the best of the rest. It's the same thing to finish 10 points off the champion and scoring 500 goals, it doesn't matter - you're the best of the rest."
Pellegrini had no grievances to air from Malaga when asked to respond to Mourinho's comments.
"I don't regret anything about coming here, I'm very proud to coach here," Pellegrini said. "Everyone has their own way of thinking, of being and acting. We all go our own way."
Mourinho lashed out at journalists over headlines of his complaints over the schedule, calling one a "hypocrite." Spanish clubs are playing three games inside 10 days with Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia also playing Champions League games either side of the period.
"If you think it's normal that Valencia plays Schalke and then plays Zaragoza on Saturday ... then, OK, stick with that reality," Mourinho said. "It's not normal that Valencia plays today after closing out Sunday's games while Barcelona played Saturday. These are the types of sweets you give someone to fool them, but they don't fool me."
The Portuguese coach also pleaded for patience with Brazil playmaker Kaka, who has so far struggled to impose himself in the team since returning in January from knee and groin injuries.
"For a player like him, who lives off his talent, his explosiveness and his speed, to be limited for so long and then sidelined for so much time is not easy. We didn't expect him to come back and be the marvel he was at AC Milan and win the Ballon d'Or," Mourinho said. "The kid is working and trying his best to get better. We have to keep supporting him and giving him chances to play because he's a fantastic player."
Spanish leader and two-time defending champion Barcelona played at Valencia on Wednesday holding a seven-point lead over Madrid.

Because Mourinho would never bow down before a reporter, before an editor, before a publisher. The press can hate on Mou, can beat on Mou, can howl at the moon against Mou, but he will not put Raul in, ever. The agents, the spies, the backstabbers of the football world will not sink a knife into Mou's back. Mou is in charge, not the editorial staff of Marca.

Mundo? Sport is a little worse, and Johan Cruyff's rweekly rant is laughable. All the parasites need to be purged from football's colon.

Any time i see a Marca article about barcelona - it's about how they didn't deserve to win or how the ref missed a penalty. It's usually the opposite when i see a real madrid arcticle. And what exactly isn't mourinho going to let happen? - he's always in the headlines with his constant insults. Marca (or at least the version online) is clearly for madridistas - i'll never forget the comments and the headlines after the 5-0 barca game. what do you think of el mundo? it seems to be a light version of marca for barca.

In all of Spain, if there is one enemy of Real Madrid, Marca is it.

They make their money off Real Madrid, not by praising it, but by undermining it every day, every edition. The more controversy they can stir up, the more papers they can sell. They have Barcelona right where they want them, and they are screaming and fighting to get Madrid in the opposite pocket. Mourinho isn't going to let that happen.

real1mad: as for your judgement on pelligrini " Remember this: Pellegrini for whatever else his Real Madrid team did, didn't win anything." - suggesting he is inferior.

Yet, your argument to as why mourinho is better:
"Contrariwise, Mourinho has led Madrid to it's best ever home record in 27 years, undefeated at home, the best home record of any team in Spain, England, France, Italy,"

Also, marca an enemy of real madrid? you cannot be serious.

Selling Mou bracelets in Madrid for what? A place in the Copa del Rey final? They'll likely hand out runner up bracelets after that one.

Pellegrini is class, did a great job last season but it wasnt enough against the great Barca. I dont see why Mou's comments are necessary, its not as if Grini is a direct opponent that puts the Portuguese's team in jeopardy . Not to mention Malaga is a gorgeous place, wtf does he care if the Chilean's fam is happy there. Not everyone demands attention and disco lights on themselves Jose.

There are a bunch of idiotic comments on this story. Especially from so called Madridistas. Mourinho is the MVP of Madrid, and I want some of what he's smoking. Anybody who disagrees with Mourinho's analyses of reality has their head up their posterior.

Mourinho is so far ahead of Pellegrini that anyone, anyone who thinks different is an idiot. Remember this: Pellegrini for whatever else his Real Madrid team did, didn't win anything. Pellegrini was in charge during th Alcocornazo. Pellegrini was a coward and a wimp when it came to bowing down to Marca and As, the truest enemies of Real Madrid in the world.

MADRID (AP)

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho is adamant he won't change his confrontational style despite a brusque couple of days building up to Thursday's 7-0 win over Malaga.
Mourinho has waged an ongoing war of words with Spanish media, and on Wednesday the Portuguese coach ridiculed his Madrid predecessor Manuel Pellegrini's decision to join Malaga.
On Thursday, Mourinho deflected further scrutiny that he was damaging Madrid's image, saying it ''is not my problem.''
''The day people aren't happy with me, I go. It's not a problem,'' the former Inter Milan and Chelsea boss said from the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. ''Obviously not now because we're in the middle of the season, but it's a situation that needs to be analyzed at the close of the season.''
Mourinho was subdued in his answers, but did not tone down his criticism over the league scheduling, which led him to call one journalist a ''hypocrite'' Wednesday after being challenged over his general outbursts.
''I have a lot of experiences, a lot of years in football in completely different cultures. I'm ready for everything,'' Mourinho said. ''When one hits you, it's like a boxer, you have to be ready for the second, third punch. But when they hit you 50, 60, 70 (times) - it doesn't matter then.
''Again, I'm just responding to the hypocrisy. In a hypocritical world, to not be a hypocrite is a big problem, a bad defect that I will always carry.''
Mourinho still has another three years to run on his contract, although he has already hinted he could exit at the end of the season. His discourse Thursday may not improve his friendship with club president Florentino Perez.
''For the head of the club we shouldn't challenge these types of things,'' he said. ''We should shut up and be cool, people don't care about these things.''
Madrid pegged back to within seven points of Spanish leader Barcelona with the victory. While the league race looks difficult, Mourinho has Madrid in the Copa del Rey final and with a good chance of reaching the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the first time since 2004.
''With me everything is easy,'' Mourinho said. ''If the coach goes, we stay friends forever. One day I'll come back as an adversary, because these things always seem to happen with me and my former clubs.''

Bayern quiet on Van Gaal future

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge refused to discuss the future of coach Louis van Gaal following the 1-0 defeat at home to Schalke.
Wednesday night's shock DFB-Pokal semi-final loss left the defending champions facing the prospect of ending the season without a trophy.

Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats Scores | Fixtures | Table | Stats

They are already 16 points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, leaving the Champions League as their only chance of silverware this season.
"We have got to be able to accept defeats, even if they really hurt," Rummenigge said.
"Despite the disappointment and all of the emotions, we have still got to keep our calm and the team has got to try to win on Saturday.
"That is an important game to show a reaction and get the points to try and get us back into the places in the league where we can qualify for the Champions League next season.
"I am not discussing the coach and nobody else is at the club."
Van Gaal knows his future could hinge on next week's Champions League clash with Inter Milan, while Saturday's game with third-placed Hannover is equally important.
"This is a huge disappointment," he told ZDF television. "I said before the game that this is an important competition.
"Our aim now is second place (in the Bundesliga) and we are still in the Champions League,"
"I have to just carry on doing my job, and I think I do it very well.
"Then it is up to the board to decide, not me."
Captain Philipp Lahm admitted it was "going to be very hard to rescue the season" after last night's defeat at the Allianz Arena.
"If we don't win the league and we don't win the cup, then that is not a good season for Bayern," he added.
"We will have to talk a lot in the next few days because Saturday's game is very, very important - maybe the most important of the season - because coming second depends on that game.
"We must win in Hannover."
Schalke managed Felix Magath was understandably delighted to have finally got the better of his former club after losing by the same scoreline in the semi-final to Bayern last season.
"The final in Berlin is a really great reward," he said. "I am delighted that we have reached it."
Schalke will play local rivals Duisburg from the second division in the final in Berlin on May 21.
The clubs are separated by just 25 miles in Germany's industrial Ruhr area and and Magath expects a tough challenge.
"I think that anybody who bet on us winning last night will be very rich now," said Magath. "But it will be a different situation in Berlin.
"We will be the favourites there, but you can never under-estimate second-division opponents."

This is for Schalke_USA. You sound delusional when you make comments like Magath wanted to lose this game and it adds insult to injury to suggest FCB could not beat a team with a manager trying to lose the game. FCB performed better in the Liga with less firepower under Magath's tenure.

Marc has been consistent regarding his LvG comments and I am starting to buy in to them. However, LvG's word is not final and there are other individuals in the organization equally responsible for the roster. Ulli was the only one to speak up and that was belated. As far as Rangnik is concenrned, there is bad history b/w him and FCB and he has no experience with a club/squad of Bayern's stature. My guess is max 2 losses in the liga and he is gone, maybe even less.

It's funny to see so many persons who praise Felix Magath on these pages are also calling for Louis van Gaal's head. As many mistakes as van Gaal has made, he's still a million times better as a head coach than that pretender Magath. FC Bayern will be just fine. No worries.

And, yes, Manuel Neuer is the greatest goalkeeper on the planet today!

LvG is over rated. How many coaches out there are like him? Several, im afraid. I wont give him all the credit for the trip to the CL final last season. Hes done some good things at the club like bring in youngsters but he is a one trick pony with 3 legs. He wont buy enough quality players to fill a roster you need with a club who plays Liga, Pokal and CL. Most clubs know our tactitcs already, thats obvious and he doesnt believe in rotation which leaves most of our players running on fumes. How is he a great coach again? Unless he can pull us out of this tailspin he should be gone 1 hr after our last match of the season.

Hannover is going to be a tough test and one that we have to pass to get to where Bayern want to go this season. The commitment and urgency has to be there from the get go this weekend and people will have to step up as Schweinsteiger will not be available maybe Kroos and Gustavo if he is 100% can handle the middle. The guys up top need to get service and Muller might have to come futher back to get more touches for him and Gomez.

To me the jusry is still out on Van Gaal till the end of the season, let the season play out and then decide which way to go. Bayern should be able to secure a CL spot even if it is third in the table. The CL is still wide open and Bayern have a huge game coming up with Inter at the Allianz Arena that we have to perform in to get the right result, but it is doable. Van Gaal has to get the ship turned around here and quick as these last two losses at home are troubling to say the least. The players have to perform and give it their all and some need to find their form again.

marcbarca you again saying Van Gaal is a bad coach by saying he had some successes ,are you kidding yourself ?what other coach is doing what he is doing
?going to a big club and give untested young players a chance and win ,he has won with every team he has coached while saving them ton of money .If Bayern fire him he will coach another team and Bayern will not have anytime soon another coach like him,i am telling you again tell me what other coach dares do what he is doing? and i can bet my life any other coach out there would not be able to accomplish what he is acccomplishing and accomplished with Bayern

if we get rid of Van Gaal of course life will go on as when Udo Lattek left saddened me as when jupp heynckess left saddened ,as when Hitzfeld left saddened me ,they were not just coaches to me ,they represent all i love about the game by giving young players from our academy a chance to grow ,love and play for Bayern ,sand more importantly play with pride and sacrifice, that is the same thing i like about Van Gaal ,and for me there is nothing bigger than having players like Augenthaler, norbert Eder,Hans Pfluger ,wolfgang Dremler, Oliver Kahn ,and with van Gaal it is still possible ,if they fire him it will be a very sad day like when man united won against us in overtime back in 1999,i hope Van Gaal stays until Noah Shawn play and retire with bayern captain arm band

Lille clings to first place ahead of Marseille match

Lille has seen its five-point lead in the French league wiped out over the last two matches, just as defending champion Marseille's title bid is gathering momentum.
Lille tops the league only on goal difference from Rennes, Marseille is only one point behind in third place and Paris Saint-Germain is just two points adrift in fourth spot.
Lille travels to Marseille on Sunday and Lille midfielder Florent Balmont thinks his team will need plenty of grit and determination to get a result at Stade Velodrome.
"We'll need to be very strong because we're going to suffer a lot over there," Balmont said. "If we get a point there we'll be happy with that because we'll still be in the (title) race."

But Balmont thinks Lille should stick to its trademark attacking game, rather than attempting to battle it out for a point.
"We have the ability to play, but we're also strong defensively," he said. "It won't be easy but we shouldn't be fainthearted about it."
A series of scrappy wins, meanwhile, has left even Marseille fans groaning about the team's dreary style of play.
But if Marseille beats Lille, and Rennes fails to beat Montpellier away on Saturday, coach Didier Deschamps' team will be back in first place for the first time since briefly topping the league in early December.
Marseille's credentials are set to be severely tested, because the following two league games will be away to Rennes and at home to PSG, with a Champions League last-16 return leg at Manchester United sandwiched in between.
"The calendar (fixture list) is drawn up in such a way that we're up against our direct rivals," former France captain Deschamps said. "We'll see come the end of March. We'll have a clearer idea about what we're capable of achieving."
Marseille has won its last four league games, all by a single-goal margin, and has not scored more than twice in any game since thrashing Montpellier 4-0 in November.
But Deschamps has had to contend with injuries to creative players such as strikers Andre-Pierre Gignac and Loic Remy and winger Mathieu Valbuena - all France internationals - throughout the season, getting the best out of his squad through a more pragmatic approach.
While it is not pretty to watch, it is certainly effective. Marseille was six points behind free-scoring Lille heading into the winter break but coach Rudi Garcia's players have looked tired recently, winning only one of the last eight games as they competed on three fronts.
Lille went out of the Europa League to PSV Eindhoven last week and scraped into the semifinals of the French Cup on penalties on Wednesday after drawing 0-0 against Lorient.
Goals have been drying up for Lille's prolific attack, prompting the unexpected slump. Lille led Rennes by five points before a 1-0 defeat away to Montpellier and a 1-1 home draw against Lyon let its rivals back into the race.
"It will be another big game, like a real Champions League match," said Lille winger Eden Hazard, who scored the winning penalty against Lorient on Wednesday night. "I've never won a match at Stade Velodrome before."
Gignac (groin), Remy (sprained ankle) and Valbuena (knee) have all been training under supervision from Marseille's doctor in a bid to be fit for Sunday's match. Remy says he is "confident" of playing.
In Saturday's other games, it's: Caen vs. Saint-Etienne; Lorient vs. Nancy; Nice vs. Lens; Toulouse vs. Sochaux; Valenciennes vs. Monaco; and Auxerre vs. PSG.
Fifth-place Lyon hosts last-place Arles-Avignon, and Brest faces Bordeaux in Sunday's other matches.
Bordeaux coach Jean Tigana agreed this week to remain in charge until at least the end of the season, after the club's directors persuaded him to stay.

Angers ended fifth-division team Chambery's surprising run in the French Cup on Wednesday to reach the semifinals with a 3-0 win.
Chambery had knocked out topflight teams Brest, Monaco and Sochaux in previous rounds, but they could not rouse themselves for another surprise against the more modest Angers.
Angers striker Henri Saivet scored the opener in the 45th minute with a powerful right-footed strike before midfielder Sebastien Renouard doubled the second-division team's lead in the 63rd.

Argentine midfielder Diego Sebastian Gomez scored the third in the 84th with a shot into the top right corner.
"We are disappointed because when we enter the pitch it's only to win," Chambery coach David Guion said. "I'm proud of my players and of what they accomplished. This adventure will allow us to reach another level and will help us summon our strengths to gain promotion."
The game was moved to a bigger stadium in nearby Grenoble given the interest Chambery had generated in the alpine community, and drew about 15,000 fans. No other amateur teams has ever won three consecutive matches against Ligue 1 clubs in the French Cup.
"We achieved something fantastic, we took them seriously and we played a big match," Angers coach Jean-Louis Garcia said.
Angers reached the Cup semifinals for the first time in 42 years.
Defending champion Paris Saint-Germain struggled to break the deadlock against second-division leader Le Mans at the Parc des Princes but finally advanced with a 2-0 win after extra time.
Substitute striker Jean-Chistophe Bahebeck opened PSG's account in the 108th, turning a defender and slotting a low strike into the net.
Midfielder Neeskens Kebano then met Ceara's fine cross in the 116th to give PSG more room to breathe.
League leader Lille also advanced with a 5-3 win over Lorient in a penalty shootout after the teams drew 0-0 following extra time.
"Their goalkeeper was decisive several times tonight, but the most important thing was the result," Lille coach Rudi Garcia said.
Nice reached the semis with a 3-2 win at Reims after extra time on Tuesday.
