Updated Feb 23, 2011 2:15 PM ET John Terry is sure Chelsea can capitalise on their rivals' slip-ups to make the Premier League top four - and he has not given up on the title. Chelsea have slumped to fifth in the Premier League after taking one point from their last two games but they got back to winning ways at FC Copenhagen in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Tottenham's surprise defeat at Blackpool also allows them the chance to regain fourth in the Premier League if they beat Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday. Manchester City also lost their last league game - the Manchester derby - and lie just four points clear of Chelsea having played a game more, leaving Terry to believe his side's trophy-winning experience will give them the edge in the race for third and fourth place. He said of Tottenham and City: "At times, they look very good but are slipping up like we all are at the moment. "The only side who don't look like slipping up are Man United. "And when teams like Tottenham and Man City do slip up, it's down to us to capitalise on that and make sure we win and hopefully pull away from them." He added: "We've been there, we've seen it, we've done it, we've got the t-shirt. "When we do go on a bad run, people pinpoint the age. "But what we have got is an awful lot of experience, a lot of trust in each other and belief that we can still do it. "Look at last year as well - the experience we showed last year in a lot of big games in the run-in. "We went away to Liverpool, went away to Man United and won very big games - that proved to be very crucial in us doing the double." Chelsea have all but surrendered their Premier League crown, having slipped 12 points behind United, but Terry believes they can sow the seeds of doubt in the minds of their perennial title rivals by beating them at Stamford Bridge next week.
The home of the best LIVE soccer and rugby awaits at FoxSoccer.tv -- don't miss a second of the action.
"If we want to put in a charge and a run for the Premier League, we must beat Man United," Terry said. "A draw's no good and, obviously, losing no good at all. "We go into the game with no fear, just passion. "Being able to put pressure on them would be great." Terry agrees with Carlo Ancelotti that United would be facing a Chelsea side now boasting a forward line to be feared all over Europe. Nicolas Anelka bagged a double on Tuesday night and, although Fernando Torres flopped again in front of goal, the £50million man otherwise linked up well with his strike partner. With Didier Drogba also laying in wait on the bench, Terry reckons it bodes well for the Blues. "To play against them must put the fear into defenders," he said. "The two guys who started, showing their pace, playing on people's shoulders - there's probably none better in the league. "Hopefully this is the start of them all clicking together." He added of Torres: "The only thing that was missing from his performance was a goal. "It would've been very nice for him, but he played a massive part in our performance." And Terry would not be surprised at all to see the Spaniard finally break his duck against United, adding: "We hope so. It'd be an ideal time, and what a way to get going.
Updated Feb 23, 2011 2:16 PM ET Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has admitted he has no idea how long he will be able to keep Carlos Tevez at Eastlands. Reports this week quoted Tevez's representative Kia Joorabchian as claiming the Argentina striker - who netted his 50th goal for City in Sunday's 5-0 FA Cup fourth-round replay victory over Notts County - would be happy to rejoin Brazilian side Corinthians, a move he was confident he could seal for his client within the next couple of years. Tevez's current deal with City runs until the summer of 2014 and asked if he felt keeping hold of the club captain would be a problem, Mancini said: "I don't know this.
"I'm happy for Carlos because he has scored 50 goals for Manchester City and I hope he can continue to score, but in football it is impossible to know what will happen in the future. I hope Carlos can continue to play here." Mancini insisted he was not concerned by the speculation and that his focus was on City's remaining fixtures this season, starting with the Europa League last-16 second leg against Aris Salonika on Thursday night. "At this moment, I am worried only about the game, not about other things," the Italian said. "I am worried about the championship and the cups. For the moment Carlos is here, he plays for Manchester City. "He is important, but in the squad there are more than 20 players who are all important. "It is normal when you have a striker like Carlos, or Mario (Balotelli) or (Edin) Dzeko, that it is important they play. But I don't know what will happen next year." Ahead of the clash with Greek outfit Aris, with whom they drew 0-0 in the first leg, City have been hit by the news that goalkeeper Shay Given could be out of action for three months with a shoulder injury. Given is seeing a specialist about the problem today and Mancini expects the Republic of Ireland international will require surgery. "Shay has this problem in his shoulder and I think he needs three months to recover," Mancini said. "He has the same injury that he had last year and I think that he needs an operation." Given also damaged his shoulder in April, which prompted City, whose current first-choice stopper Joe Hart was playing for Birmingham on loan at the time, to sign Marton Fulop on an emergency temporary deal from Sunderland for their final three games of the 2009-10 campaign. Mancini hopes he will not have to do something similar this time, with Stuart Taylor available as back-up for Hart and the manager considering recalling David Gonzales from his loan spell at Leeds. Balotelli is fit to play despite suffering a clash of heads in the game at the weekend, while Shaun Wright-Phillips is also in contention again having been sidelined with a back problem. Micah Richards has picked up what appears to be a calf injury, though, so will not feature and James Milner (hamstring), Nigel de Jong and Adam Johnson (both ankle) remain in the treatment room.
Updated Feb 23, 2011 10:17 AM ET Spain international star David Silva has rubbished rumours he is homesick and has struggled to settle into life at Manchester City. Reports surfaced over the weekend claiming the 25-year-old playmaker was considering a return to his homeland following his move from Valencia last summer.
But, speaking at a promotional event in his role as a tourism ambassador for his native Gran Canaria, Silva insisted the quotes were not his. The World Cup winner joined City on a four-year deal and insists he is happy in England. "I was as surprised, as anyone else here, to have read those reports," he said. "I do the odd interview with Spanish press but I have never come out with these quotes that may or may not have been attributed to me. "My initial reaction was surprise, but as I have said before, I am happy to be here and I find myself very much at ease with life here. "The thing about a big city like Manchester is that people respect your space. They leave you to get on with your life. "In Spain, people can get on your back and maybe live the game more. Here it's nice to go out and chill in the city." Silva had to wait until September before establishing himself in City's starting line-up but has since shone playing behind top scorer Carlos Tevez. And while he admits it was difficult to adjust to his new surroundings early on, he feels his recent form is a fairer reflection of what he can offer. "The help of my team-mates and all the people at the club has helped my settling-in period go so smoothly," he added. "It was difficult to begin with, but I was not quite 100 per cent fit because I missed part of pre-season due to my late arrival from the World Cup. "There were also a couple of international friendlies that involved long journeys which interrupted me getting into shape. I didn't have the time then, but since then I think the form has started to come through for me."

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has confirmed that goalkeeper Shay Given could be facing three months on the sidelines.
Given is seeing a specialist about a shoulder problem on Wednesday and Mancini expects the Irish stopper will require surgery.
"Shay has this problem in his shoulder and I think he needs three months to recover," Mancini said.
"He has the same injury that he had last year and I think that he needs an operation."
Given also damaged his shoulder in April, which prompted City to sign Marton Fulop on an emergency loan deal from Sunderland for their final three games of the 2009-10 campaign.
Mancini hopes he will not have to do something similar this time.
"I am disappointed for him because we have lost a good goalkeeper," Mancini said.
"Last year we had the problem in the last three games because we lost him to injury and I hope this year it is not the same."
Asked if he would recall David Gonzales from his loan spell at Leeds, Mancini said: "Probably. We can take David from Leeds - we don't have many more options."
Given, 34, picked up his latest shoulder problem in the warm-up before City's Europa League draw with Aris Salonika in Greece last week.
He was not on the bench for the FA Cup success over Notts County at the weekend.
The Republic of Ireland international has made just four appearances this term after losing the number one spot to Joe Hart and has not played in the Premier League in 10 months.
Given had been keen to go out on loan in the January transfer window and reports have claimed the injury could mean the former Newcastle stalwart has played his last game for City.

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway could barely put into words how pleased he was with his team after their triumph over Tottenham this evening.
The Seasiders pulled off an impressive 3-1 victory at Bloomfield Road to move up to 12th in the Barclays Premier League, five points clear of the relegation zone.

Their captain Charlie Adam - who so nearly joined Spurs in January - opened the scoring with a penalty in the 18th minute after Sebastien Bassong had fouled DJ Campbell in the box.
Campbell then netted his ninth goal of the season a minute before the interval and substitute Brett Ormerod slotted in a third with 10 minutes remaining, rendering Roman Pavlyuchenko's effort at the death a mere consolation.
The result was remarkable not only in that it brought Tottenham back down to earth after their famous Champions League win against AC Milan last week, but also because the visitors had a host of opportunities to score over the course of the 90 minutes.
A couple of goal-line clearances and some superb saves by goalkeeper Richard Kingson kept Spurs out until just before the final whistle, though, as Blackpool secured three points Holloway felt they richly deserved.
"I don't think there is a word that has been written, printed or ever produced in the dictionary that I can use for how pleased I am," Holloway said.
"For all those scenarios that could have happened, and in the second half, looked like they were going to happen, and how depressed I would have been if they had gone on and taken a few more of their chances, I still don't believe my boys would have deserved that.
"I don't think we got what we deserved against Manchester City or Manchester United here and it looked like Tottenham were going to be too good for us, but we got the third goal at an absolutely vital time.
"I'd like to say thank you to all my lads, the new ones and the old ones - to Brett, because no-one deserves it more than him.
"It was a fantastic night for everyone connected with the club."
He added: "Does that make us better than AC Milan? I don't think so! But does that make up for some of the things that have happened recently? Probably."
With 11 games to go in their maiden Premier League campaign, Blackpool have given themselves a real chance of beating the drop, although Holloway believes they will need more than their current tally of 32 points to guarantee survival.
"What my lads are doing and the gaps they are bridging at this level from where we should be is just phenomenal," Holloway said.
"Last season 32 points would have kept us up but we know we are going to need at least a few more, so let's get on with what we have to do next, which is Wolves away."
Harry Redknapp insisted Tottenham were not suffering a hangover from Milan but the manager was heavily critical of their profligacy in front goal.
"We gave a penalty away under no pressure because of a scandalous challenge and then after that we can't convert chance after chance," Redknapp said.
"In the second half, it was incredible watching it - missing chances from four or five yards like it was going out of fashion.
"You expect when you have got good strikers who are goalscorers to stick them in.
"There are balls dropping onto their heads and we are waiting for them to head it into the goal from five yards out and they are not scoring.
"It was just unreal, but that's just how it goes - full credit to Blackpool, they have done fantastic.
"What they have done here has just been absolutely amazing. It must be great for them and it is a big scalp for them, beating a club like Tottenham.
"One goal would have changed the game around, no doubt about that.
"If it had gone to 2-1, it would have changed attitudes. We just needed a goal, but we kept missing them."

Aston Villa striker Darren Bent believes the "crazy" money spent on Fernando Torres and Andy Carroll has made him something of a forgotten man.
Up until the final day of the January transfer window, Bent's club-record £18million move to Villa was poised to be the biggest deal of the month.
But that figure was dwarfed by Carroll's £35million switch from Newcastle to Liverpool and the £50million Chelsea spent on prising Torres away from the Anfield club.
Reflecting on the transfer window, Bent said: "It was mad. More so because of Carroll's transfer to Liverpool because he has played half a season in the Premier League and gone for £35million, so it is a bit crazy.
"Someone like Torres is proven in the top-flight and in my opinion is the best striker in the country, and if he goes for £50million you kind of think fair enough.
"It was a bit crazy, but it is the way the game is going at the moment. The money is going up and the stakes are getting raised.
"People have got to do what they've got to do to get players in and get results."
The striker, who has scored two goals in five games for Villa, as well as finding the net for England since his move from Sunderland, admits the pressure is on him given the fee Villa paid.
But in light of the sums of money spent on Torres and Carroll, he feels as if he has now stepped out of the limelight.
Speaking to the official Villa website regarding his fee, Bent said: "It definitely does add pressure.
"Obviously for me it is pressure I have dealt with before because I went to Spurs for big money.
"But I think my transfer fee has obviously now been eclipsed by Torres and Carroll. A lot of people seem to have forgotten about my transfer now, so I've just got on with it.
"At the same time there is pressure whatever the transfer fee and especially when you go to a club and you want to do well.
"If anything you put pressure on yourself to do well."
Bent, though, could not be happier with life at his new club, saying: "Everything has been positive. I definitely made the right decision.
"It's been great to get amongst the goals too, that's certainly been important. When you join a new club, it's always important as a goalscorer to get off the mark.
"That first goal is vital, so for me to do that on my debut helped me settle down.
"If you go one, two, three games without a goal it does wear you down. But thankfully I managed to get one in my first game and I want to build on that now."

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew hopes Hatem Ben Arfa will return from injury at the start of April.
The French winger has been sidelined since suffering a horrific double leg-break against Manchester City in October.
The 23-year-old has since signed a permanent deal with Newcastle having initially joined on loan from Marseille and is progressing well on the comeback trail.
Pardew reckons the trip to Stoke on March 19 would be too soon for Ben Arfa to be in contention but has pencilled him in for Newcastle's next game, the home match against Wolves on April 2.
"You'd like to think he's got every chance of playing against Wolves," he told The Chronicle. "The Stoke game is probably too soon for him.
"He will not be toned up as he has been out for so long. He's running, but he's a good month away."
Ben Arfa will return to the club's Benton base next month in a bid to get match fit and make an impact in the Magpies' last eight games of the season.
Pardew has enjoyed another boost with Shola Ameobi set to ease the burden on makeshift strike pair Peter Lovenkrands and Leon Best after making a successful return to training.
Ameobi had been in Detroit to be fitted with a protective mask after breaking his cheekbone earlier this month, and Pardew hopes the 29-year-old striker will be available for next week's visit of Everton.
"Shola's running now and has his mask," said the Toon boss. "He knows he's got his work cut out to get back in this team.
"Peter and Leon weren't first choice at the start of the season but they have worked hard and are doing well."
Meanwhile, defender Steven Taylor (hamstring) is back in full training while Ryan Taylor (ankle) could be in contention for Saturday's home game against Bolton having been sidelined since October.

Blackburn boss Steve Kean feels the club's growing status has been pivotal to the recent spate of players pledging their futures to Rovers.
Since the new owners arrived at the club, the likes of Chris Samba, Michel Salgado, Jason Roberts and, most recently last week, Phil Jones have all signed new deals.
Jones, in particular, has been seen as crucial as Kean confirmed the club received enquiries for the 19-year-old central defender during last month's transfer window from "a couple of big clubs".
"There is always going to be interest. The big clubs are always going to try and recruit people of Phil's stature," said Kean.
"We had enquiries from a couple of big clubs, and without naming any names, we're delighted he decided to pledge his future to us.
"They were only tentative enquiries. There was nothing concrete put in front of us.
"But it says a lot for us as a club that players like Phil can commit themselves to us, even if there is interest from bigger clubs.
"What we give them is a platform on which to play, with academy and reserve players promoted to the first team and given a chance to mix in with the quality senior players we already have here."
After breaking into the first team 11 months ago, Jones signed a five-year contract in the summer, only for the club to recognise they had to do more to avoid him being lured away.
Whatever clauses Jones may possess in his new deal, Kean knows it may not be enough to keep the mega-rich at bay.
"You have to hope it's enough," added Kean.
"If somebody came in with a really big bid then we would speak to Phil and the people who look after him, who are very sensible and who give him good solid advice.
"But hopefully as he keeps playing, progressing and developing, we'll keep hold of him for the term of his contract."
Jones, currently recovering from surgery to repair cartilage damage in his right knee, admits to being surprised when Blackburn came in with an improved offer that takes him through to 2016.
But then as someone who has lived in Blackburn and supported the club all his life, the decision to re-sign was a simple one at the end of the day.
"I'm a local lad, I watched them on the terraces when I was a boy, and all my friends and family support Blackburn," said Jones.
"So I'm really happy to have signed the new contract. I know I made the right decision.
"There are a lot of players coming through the academy these days at Blackburn, and that's promising for the future. There's a lot of potential here."

Yanga wapigwa pini kuzungumza Send to a friend Wednesday, 23 February 2011 20:05

Blackpool pulled off an impressive 3-1 home win over Tottenham on Tuesday to move five points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.
Seasiders captain Charlie Adam - who so nearly joined Spurs in January - opened the scoring at Bloomfield Road with a firm penalty in the 18th minute after Sebastien Bassong had fouled DJ Campbell in the box.
Campbell then netted his ninth goal of the season a minute before the interval by connecting with James Beattie's cross before substitute Brett Ormerod netted a third with 10 minutes of normal time remaining, rendering Roman Pavlyuchenko's effort at the death a mere consolation.
The win was remarkable not only in that in brought Tottenham back down to earth after their famous Champions League win at AC Milan last week, but also because the visitors had numerous opportunities to score throughout the 90 minutes.
A couple of goal-line clearances and some superb saves by goalkeeper Richard Kingson kept Spurs out until just before the final whistle, though, as the Seasiders secured three vital points that move them up to 12th in the table.
Blackpool created the game's first goalscoring opportunity in the fourth minute when Adam won a free-kick and lofted it on to the head of Ian Evatt, who headed wide.
At the other end, Jermain Defoe was crowded out as he attempted to get a shot away and the ball went behind for a corner, which was swung in by Steven Pienaar.
Kingson met it with a less-than-convincing punch and Pienaar picked up possession, but after dancing along the edge of the box, he scuffed his shot over.
Pavlyuchenko was next to try an ambitious effort that went wide by some distance, but having soaked up the pressure, Blackpool hit back to take the lead.
Bassong wrapped his leg around Campbell as the striker ran across the box and after referee Chris Foy pointed to the penalty spot, Adam rifled the ball home beyond the diving grasp of Heurelho Gomes.
Tottenham had a chance to level things just before the half-hour mark as Pavlyuchenko laid a pass to Pienaar in the area, but the South African's shot was blocked by Craig Cathcart.
Adam then blasted the loose ball over his own bar off Pienaar as the hosts clung on to their advantage.
Spurs went even closer soon after as Defoe clipped the ball over Kingson towards goal, but Cathcart was again on hand to avert the danger with an excellent header off the line.
Adam then wastefully sliced a free-kick off target and Aaron Lennon's touch let him down after he was fed by Wilson Palacios.
An uncertain moment from Kingson led to Blackpool making another goal-line clearance towards the end of the half, this time Alex Baptiste the man to deny Defoe.
The home of the best LIVE soccer and rugby awaits at FoxSoccer.tv -- don't miss a second of the action.
But having almost managed to grab an equaliser, Spurs suddenly found themselves 2-0 down just before the break.
Beattie collected debutant Sergei Kornilenko's back-heel and chipped the ball to Campbell at the far post, who gleefully tucked it away.
Campbell looked as if he might have been offside as he finished, but the effort stood and Blackpool were firmly in the driving seat.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp brought Jermaine Jenas on for Palacios at the break and Spurs looked to exert some pressure from the word go at the start of the second half, with Pienaar sending a shot wide.
Campbell called Gomes into action moments later, but Tottenham were soon on the front foot again, with Jenas striking off target and Kingson doing well to save a header from Pavlyuchenko.
Luka Modric hit an effort over at the end of a nice passing move and Pavlyuchenko sent another attempt over, but having weathered the storm, Blackpool almost made it 3-0 as Adam unleashed a low drive that went just the wrong side of the post.
Back came Spurs and after William Gallas had blazed over, the visitors were twice inches away from making a breakthrough.
First Pavlyuchenko was unable to get on the end of Defoe's cross and then Lennon was too late to slide in the pass returned across the box by Niko Kranjcar, on as a substitute for Pienaar.
Kingson then pulled off a fantastic point-blank save to keep Pavlyuchenko's header out.
Blackpool's goal seemed to be leading a charmed life and they somehow managed to keep Spurs at bay again in the 72nd minute as Modric dinked the ball over Kingson but Baptiste intervened before it could cross the line.
Crouch, who had also come off the bench, then flashed a header wide but Spurs' luck appeared to be out and in the 80th minute, the Seasiders struck again.
It was two of their substitutes who combined to make the goal as Matt Phillips broke into the box, Benoit Assou-Ekotto got muddled as he attempted to make a challenge and the ball broke to Ormerod, who slotted past Gomes.
Pavlyuchenko managed to loop in a shot in stoppage time but it counted for little.

Antonio Valencia could play in Manchester United's FA Cup quarter-final on March 12, while Anderson is sidelined for just two to three weeks.
Midfielder Anderson was reportedly set for a two-month lay-off with a knee injury, but ahead of the Champions League clash with Marseille, Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that the Brazilian was in Portugal for treatment and is expected to return to fitness within three weeks.
Valencia has been out of action since suffering a badly broken ankle in the opening match of this season's Champions League against Rangers in September.
But the Ecuador international returned to training last week and Ferguson confirmed a first-team appearance has been pencilled in against either Arsenal or Leyton Orient.
"Antonio is training very well now," the United boss said in a press conference in Marseille before Wednesday's last-16 clash.
"He is involved on the contact side and the signs are very encouraging. We expect him to be ready by the cup tie."
Valencia was one of seven senior players who were missing when the Red Devils flew out of Manchester on Tuesday morning.
However, Ferguson does not view it as an insurmountable problem, especially as most of the absentees will be back for the second leg at Old Trafford in three weeks' time.
"Anderson got injured in the first half on Saturday," Ferguson added.
"We have sent him to Portugal to see a specialist he has dealt with over there. That will be two weeks, three at the most.
"Ryan Giggs should be okay for the Wigan game on Saturday, while Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans should be back for the Chelsea game next week.
"We have missed Park Ji-sung because he has been such a good player for us, but he should be back in two or three weeks."
