Siasa ya Ujamaa na Kujitegemea ilikuwa ndio shubiri yetu ili tuende kwenye neema. Lazima uanze pagumu ndipo uende pazuri. Nikuulize, yale yote yaliyofanywa kipindi kile unayafahamu? Also there is this huge misconception that,We were wrong to take ujamaa because during 20 years of nyerere our country had so much problems and life standard was not good.while i think life standard under mwalimu was quite better(unless taking 3 hours from ubungo to posta qualifies as good life standard to you).

1961 was our starting point,it was not expected of us to be a hit in 30-50 years time,all we needed was keep up the hard work,which we did for 20 good years and quit.

we are very quick to say China was same level as TZ in 1960s while we forget that China is a 5000 year old nation with very long history and civilization,u can not simply beat that!

And even with all that head start advantage China had to endure worse than what we had,and over 40% of china is still pretty much enduring that,to get to the super power status they so keenly want to.

It is very naive of us to think,in 20 years with zero head-start we would be so great as a nation,and in 50 years time we would be a rich nation,no way!!

I can bet that,if we had kept 80% of Mwalimu industries,modernizing some of his theories gradually and adopt them with changing times,we would have been at a better nation now.And am saying this because i think we are worse as a nation as we werein 1980s.I am an old school thinker who believes, owning zero industries,importing toothpicks,and exporting drugs is not exactly a great plan for nation.at the same time people are not even that well off,the level of urbanization is higher,but poverty rates are soaring, literacy levels are dipping,urban planning is in shambles,inflation is record high,share of agriculture production per population is at all time minimum.we have zero success in any meaningful metric any person with IQ greater than one's feet size could argue.

if observed carefully,one can also argue that recent government policies,corruption very poor leadership etc has taken us back as a nation more than 50 years.Someday,someone has to fight for this nation,someone has to fight for this land,someone has to fight for these people.so far no one cares.Someday our children,our grandchildren or great grandchildren will fight for all that.

Kwanza ninakubaliana na wewe kuwa hakuna mfumo wa kiuchumi na kisiasa ambao uko sahihi 100% na vile vile ninakubaliana na wewe kuwa mwl. Nyerere alikuwa sahihi kukataa mkopo kutoka imf/wb.

Kuna kitu kimoja ambacho wale wanaomtetea sana mwl. Nyerere na siasa zake huwa hawataki kugusia tanzania ya miaka ya 60s and 70s baada ya wazungu kuondoka ambapo hata imf haikuwa na influence yoyote katika maswala ya kisiasa na kiuchumi nchini zaidi ya kutoa mikopo midogo midogo na kile kilichopelekea kufika kwenye miaka ya 80s ambayo ilitufanya tuanze kuangalia mikopo mikubwa kutoka imf/world bank baada ya nchi kutaka kufirisika.

Rais mwinyi baada ya kuingia madarakani hakuwa na choice zaidi ya kuingia kwenye ofisi za imf/world bank desperate zaidi ya kipindi ambacho mwl. Nyerere na hii ni kutokana na kutokuwa na muda wa kutafuta njia nyingine katika kuinusuru nchi kama ilivyokuwa kipindi ambacho mwl. Nyerere alipokuwa na political and economic avenue. Tanzania ilikuwa inapumua kwenye inflation rate ya 30%, ukuaji wa uchumi ulikuwa 1.5% na madeni ya nje zaidi ya $5 bilioni.

Naomba unieleze, kwa nini nchi ilifika hapo wakati mwl. Nyerere alikuwa na nyenzo zote zinazotakiwa kwa mtu kufanya maamuzi.

Nyerere kuachia madaraka akiwa masikini haileti faraja au ahueni kwa wananchi ambao walikuwa wanatumia majivu kama dawa ya meno au majani ya miti kama sabuni na zaidi wale ambao walikuwa wanajipanga kupata kilo moja ya mahindi au unga kwa ajiri ya mlo wa wiki bila kuangalia tofauti ya consumption kati ya mtu na mtu au familia na familia.

Kukataa kupata mkopo imf/wb kwa sababu ya masharti yasiyo mazuri na kuendelea kuitumbukiza nchi kwenye umasikini bila kutafuta njia nyingine chanya kukabiliana na hali hiyo hakuwezi kumfanya mtanzania aliyeonja ugumu wa maisha amuone kama ni 'visionary leader'.

Hakuna priority ya muhimu na maana kwa kiongozi wa nchi zaidi ya kulifanya taifa kuwa endelevu kiuchumi. Mwl. Nyerere alishindwa kuiona hii priority pamoja na 'u-genius' wake ndiyo maana nchi ikatumbukia kwenye umasikini zaidi.
