Police in Masaka District are investigating the tragic circumstances under which a two-year-old boy was shot dead and two other people were injured during a violent altercation at a local bar.
The incident occurred at a bar in Ndeeba-Lwagulwe Village, Kyesiiga Sub-County, when the local Officer in Charge (OC) of security, Mr Willy Ogwal, allegedly opened fire to quell a chaotic brawl.
The deceased minor has been identified as Ashiraf Mbazira. His mother, Ms Aisha Kisakyamukama, and another resident identified as Mr Gerald Kiweewa (alias Bamu), sustained severe injuries during the shooting and are currently receiving medical attention.
According to local sources, the trouble began late in the evening when a group of youths, who had been attending a karaoke night in a neighboring village, stormed the bar. Witnesses allege that the rowdy youths began stealing phones and assaulting patrons, causing widespread panic.
Mr Ogwal, who was present at the establishment during the fracas, reportedly drew his firearm and fired several shots. While he claims to have fired into the air to disperse the crowd, stray bullets struck the toddler—killing him on the spot—and wounded the two adults.
