PHIL JONES has completed his £16.5million move from Blackburn to Manchester United after signing a five-year deal.
United thought they had secured Jones' services last week, only for the transfer to hit an unforeseen snag.

Blackburn had been holding out for more cash after Liverpool had jumped in with a cheeky £22million offer.

But Jones, who featured for England Under-21's in their opening European Championship match against Spain in Denmark last night, told Rovers he did not wish to join any other club than United.

Manchester United last night stole a march in the battle for Alexis Sanchez when David Gill flew to Spain to seal the deal. And the Old Trafford chief executive hopes to wrap up a £27million transfer for football's most wanted man within the next few days. If Gill pulls off the audacious swoop – pipping Manchester City, Barcelona and a host of other European giants – it will take manager Alex Ferguson's summer spending to an amazing £82m. Gill met Udinese president Gino Pozzo yesterday – ironically in Barcelona, where the Italian supremo lives – to thrash out an agreement. It will come as a crushing blow to City. They believed their massive financial clout had swayed the Chilean winger, 22. But agent Fernando Felicevich said: "An agreement with City? Sanchez's future is still very much wide open. We are working on it and, after meetings with City, we have other new appointments."

Manchester United great Ryan Giggs became the latest celebrity to take legal action against the News of the World over allegedly hacking into his mobile phone, his lawyer announced on Wednesday.
The 37-year-old - who it was revealed last month by a British lawmaker was the married footballer who won a court injunction to keep details of an alleged affair secret - believes he is one of those whose phone was hacked into between 2005 and 2006.
The London Met Police are presently heading up an investigation into the claims.
In April, Giggs's team mate Wayne Rooney said he had been contacted by detectives involved in the investigation.
In 2007, the first police investigation led to the convictions and imprisonment of then News of the World royal editor Clive Goodman and private investigator Glenn Mulcaire, who was employed by the paper.
Goodman received four months and Mulcaire six months.
Five alleged victims have reached out-of-court settlements with the newspaper, including celebrity publicist Max Clifford, who received a reported £1million. Most recently, actress Sienna Miller formally settled for £100 000 damages and costs after accepting an apology from the company for hacking into several of her phones.
