In a rather unique incident, the police in Luuka District have launched an investigation into the death of a man said to have collapsed and died while having sexual intercourse with a woman in a bush in Bukooma Sub-County.
Busoga North Police Spokesperson, SP Samson Lubega, identified the deceased as Simon Kalamu, 50, a resident of Namulanda B Village, Namulanda Parish in Bukoma Sub-County.
He said preliminary findings indicate that the Monday incident occurred at around 9pm when the deceased was having sexual intercourse with a 40-year-old woman, a resident of the same area who had also just given birth
The deceased and the woman reportedly moved to a nearby bush where they engaged in sexual intercourse. After the first round, he allegedly collapsed during the second round,” Mr Lubega said.
Mr Lubega explained that following the sudden occurrence, the woman raised an alarm, attracting residents who later informed local authorities.
One of the residents, who spoke on condition of anonymity, claimed the deceased was known for engaging in multiple extramarital relationships and frequently consuming energy drinks and herbal substances.
“He had a habit of taking energy drinks and local herbs. He was also involved in relationships with different women. We suspect he could have suffered a cardiac arrest,” the resident said.
Police said the body was taken for postmortem examination as investigations into the incident continue.
Mr Lubega urged members of the public to improve their health-seeking behaviour and seek medical advice, especially when engaging in demanding physical activity, noting that underlying health conditions can contribute to sudden medical emergencies.
The incident adds to some similar cases previously reported in the Busoga sub-region.
In October 2022, a woman identified as Zam Nangobi of Mawembe Zone in Kagumba Parish, Kamuli District, reportedly died shortly after a sexual encounter with a man from Jinja.
In March 2025, a 32-year-old woman identified as Babirye Edinansi reportedly died at Savannah Lodge along Kamuli–Kitimbo Road under similar circumstances.
About a decade ago, a traditional healer, David Alyemberi, also reportedly died inside a lodge in Kamuli during a sexual encounter.
Medical experts say sudden deaths during sex are commonly linked to heart attacks or strokes triggered by increased physical exertion and a sharp rise in blood pressure.
