Life really doesn't know how to pump the breaks. It doesn't really get easier, or decide that now is a good time not to flood us with tragedy. Life just sort of unfolds. Different stages of our lives challenge us with different types of hurt and pain.
Too often I hear people say that they just need life to give them a break. That if a couple things would change for them, life would be okay...that things would be manageable.
I know sometimes life is brutal. Tragedy after tragedy after tragedy is undoubtedly cruel. But our marker of "success" or "peace" is not in the absence of tragedy, hurt, or pain...our success is in our transformation ...it's in the way we respond to those things.
You see, we can't just wish for an easier life. That's just not how it works. Life doesn't get easier (some may argue it actually gets harder), we just get better. We grow and learn how to successfully manage tragedy. We grow from our hurt. We become wiser with our pain. Things don't feel as daunting. They're still painful, but we know how to go on...we know how to gain amidst it all. We know how to keep our heads up. We trust in the process. We believe in relief. And we know that we are the only thing in the way of it all.
Don't wish for an easier life. Work for your transformation. Dig in and work for it. Dig in and demand personal growth. It will be the exhale you've been waiting for.
