Well, the only logical point uliyosema ni, "you might need a mentor to learn some foundations(not necessary though)"
Sasa ngoja nikupe mfano hai kuhusu mimi, nimepitia both learning methodologies, though nili drop out chuo mwaka wapili(DIT), nakubase kwenye self learning full time, the next one and half years of keeping up with pirated books, coursera, mit opencourseware, stack exchange and the likes, and opensourse contribution of course landed me a 3month internship on one of the biggest French multinational company, 2 month later(kabla hata ya kumaliza internship yenywe), they gave me a full time offer as a Junior Dev. One year later i switched to couple different roles i.e IT Officer & DevOps Engineer, Tech lead etc.
What got me an intern offer you ask, well, not DIT certificates but rather the little experience i had at the time, the Tech enthusiasm i showed (especially Emerging), my problem solving skills, both natural and technical which i learned from coursera NOT DIT (note i never paid a penny for that, thanks to financial aid) and my quick learning.
What are my skills you ask, well they range from understanding complex quantum computing shits, machine learning algos, to copy pasting stack overflow solution
😀 , jokes aside, i am currently leading a team of extraordinary devs, building an in house block-chain base solution, plus other interesting ml models for our day to day operations, remember i don't have a fucking degree, why would i need it after all?
How did i archive that with out a degree, well, if you're not going to once again try read and understand what
ub16 is saying, then i think only god knows the secret source code i guess(and i hope you keep believing that self learning is magic, cause that will obviously render me a sorcerer aka Gandalf and shit
😀 ).
My verdict: Acha kukatisha tamaa mwenye nia na uwezo wa kuji commit kisa tu wewe bichwa lako zito, matter of fact, any Science/Engineering fields ain't for people with your mentality, it will be best for you ukiacha nazo kabisa. Oh, and learn to use LOGIC in your light weight arguments.
PS: my current title is Technical/Digital Manager, in case u'll be interested kujua. And I'm ready to provide evidence of my claims if need.
Yours truly, self learner and DIT drop out
🙂 .
