A nine year old boy from Mtondia, Kilifi County will not celebrate his tenth birthday after he committed suicide because he lost in a gamble with his friends.
Kilifi police boss Alexander Makau said the boy hanged himself after he failed to contain his anger after he lost his cashew nuts. .
The deceased, Silas Charo Kazungu hanged himself in his bedroom. He was to turn ten on December 15.
The boys were gambling using cashew nuts and every participant placed five cashew nuts and the winner would take all of them.
Silas’ father, Erastus Kazungu said he learnt of the sad news from his wife.
“My son has shocked me.They continued gambling until and when he lost the game and his friends laughed and mocked him. He became angry and tried to fight to reclaim his cashew nuts but he did not manage,” said Kazungu.

He added: He excluded himself from his friends and started crying but the mother consoled him and asked him to go home and take a bath."
Kazungu said after taking a bath, his son went to his bedroom where the sister tried consoling him but she was called to get salt from the neighbour.
" When she came back, she found her brother hanging on top of the roof. Our efforts to save his life after cutting the rope did not bear any fruit as he was already dead." Kazungu said.
His body was moved to the Kilifi hospital mortuary.
