Iranian national and two Dar es Salaam residents have appeared in court here yesterday where they were charged with conspiring to traffic 50 kilogrammes of cocaine worth 1bn/- from Dar es Salaam to Nairobi in neighbouring Kenya. Reading the charges before Tanga Resident Magistrate Wilbert Chuma, State Attorney Alborau Saraji named the accused as Ismael Shebe (38), Rashid Salim (40), all residents of Dar es Salaam, and Majed Arjmand (36) believed to be an Iranian national. The State Attorney, who prosecuted the case along with another State Attorney Matrus Marandu, told the court that, the suspects were arrested on December 19, this year at Tengwa area near Kabuku in Handeni District. He said, the suspects were found with illicit drugs, worth the amount, inside a vehicle with registration number KAW 276G, property of Arjmand. They were not allowed to enter into any plea, as the Court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter. After preliminary proceedings were over, the case will be taken to the High Court for hearing. The case was adjoined to January 11, next year, and the accused were remanded in custody. SOURCE: THE GUARDIAN .
