Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court has charged Ronald Mayega, also known as Omunyarwanda wa Bobi, and Swaibu Kakaire with allegedly publishing false claims accusing Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara of sodomy.

The duo appeared before court and was charged over the alleged publication of the claims, which authorities say were false.

Mayega and Kakaire were subsequently remanded to Luzira Prison until September 28, 2026, when they are expected to return to court.

The case comes amid growing scrutiny of the use of social media and other platforms to circulate allegations against public figures, with authorities increasingly pursuing individuals accused of publishing statements deemed false or defamatory.

The two suspects will remain in custody pending their next court appearance.
