MN: Milan’s probable XI for Atalanta clash – Positive signs for Kjaer; four changes

By Isak Möller - 23 July 2020, 20:41

Tomorrow evening, AC Milan will be looking to continue their impressive unbeaten run since the restart, taking on Atalanta at the San Siro. It will be a very tough game for the Rossoneri, despite their good form as of late.

In addition to Alessio Romagnoli, Stefano Pioli will have to do without the likes of Ismael Bennacer and Theo Hernandez who are suspended. Therefore, the manager is faced with a mini-crisis with regards to the defence, as highlighted by MilanNews.it.

Simon Kjaer’s condition will be evaluated and since Leo Duarte and Mateo Musacchio are still injured, the Danish international is the only centre-back left along with Matteo Gabbia. The first signs, though, are positive for the 31-year-old.

Should he fail to make it, then Pioli could deploy Franck Kessie alongside Gabbia, as the Ivorian played in that position during his time at Cesena. In total, four changes are expected but it could be even more in the end.

Likely Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Donnarumma; Calabria, Kjaer, Gabbia, Laxalt; Kessie, Biglia; Saelemaekers, Calhanoglu, Rebic; Ibrahimovic.

📰DiMarzio: Donnarumma's will has always been staying with AC Milan. The Rossoneri must find an agreement with his agent, Raiola. The goalkeepers market seems blocked, Gigio does not want to go away, there are margins to renew for at least one or two more years."

Lucas Biglia in that first half

15 right passes
(83.3% accuracy)
0 duels won
1 aerial duel won
4 loss of possession (1 resulted in Atalanta goal)
1 penalty committed
1 yellow card

About Milan's mercato according to La Gazzetta dello Sport:

- Milan would like to keep Zlatan Ibrahimović for another season. At the moment, it all depends on the 38-year-old. One of the alternatives to the Swedish is Edin Dzeko.

- Luka Jović moves away from Milan. The player's high earnings (10 million euros net for the season), Real's financial expectations (60 million euros) and little experience mean that the transfer of the Serbian may not take place.

- Tomorrow there should be a telephone conversation between Milan and Eintracht Frankfurt regarding Ante Rebić. The Rossoneri would like to buy the Croatian from the German club. There is also a hypothesis (due to the pandemic) that the Ante Rebić and Andre Silva loans may be extended until 2022. Their contracts with their home clubs would be extended until 2023.

Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu does not want to renew his contract with AC Milan as he wishes to return to Germany, according to a report.

The playmaker has been in fantastic form since the resumption of Serie A and contributed two assists during Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Sassuolo, but there have been doubts raised over his future due to the fact his contract expires in 2021.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport reports (via MilanNews), Calhanoglu has become one of the leaders of Pioli’s Milan, but his renewal is far from a formality as has been suggested before.

The Turkey international does not want to renew his deal, as it seems he wants to go home to Germany where he was born and raised. RB Leipzig and Hertha Berlin would be ready to welcome him with open arms, and interestingly it has been suggested in the past that Ralf Rangnick wishes to sign him for Leipzig.
