Claim

One X user published information alleging that Hoima Stadium is not approved by CAF to host AFCON: The dressing rooms are so small, the media tribunal is insufficient, the competition offices were inadequate, and the VIP area is very tiny. It meets CECAFA standards; it cannot host AFCON for now.

Verdict: False

After conducting a thorough investigation, JamiiCheck found no evidence supporting the claim.

An official news release from CAF, published on 11 February 2026, stated that it had dispatched a technical inspection team for the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON 2027 to Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The inspection was expected to run until 17 February 2026.

As of 19 February 2026, there has been no official statement from CAF regarding the outcome of the inspection conducted in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda to determine whether any stadium is not qualified to host AFCON 2027.

Additionally, there has been no official statement from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) clarifying whether it has received any notice from CAF regarding the disqualification of Hoima Stadium from hosting AFCON 2027.

Furthermore, the technical team of the Africa Union Sports Council (AUSC) visited Hoima Stadium on February 18, 2025, praising the stadium. Lina Paul Kessy, the AUSC senior sports officer responsible for African Games, said:

"Through the facilities you have, you can fly the flag of Uganda and East Africa very high at AFCON."
