X+X+Y=20
2X+Y=20.
Y=20-2X..... Eqn (i)
Again;
Y+Y+Z=10
2Y+Z=10
Z=10-2Y
But Y=20-2X
Therefore, Z=10-2(20-2X)
Z=10-40+4X
Z=-30+4X........... Eqn (ii)
Now;
X+Y+Z=?
Consider that, the first equation is twice the second.
That is 20=2×10
Hence;
20-2X=2(-30+4X)
20-2x=-60+8x
10x=80
X=8kg.
From the first equation
Y=4kg
And from the second,
Z=2Kg
Now,
X+y+z=8+4+2=14kg.
