The Bagamoyo mega port that will be built in the next few years may not be 30 times larger than Mombasa, but it will be significantly bigger (by any standards) than Mombasa or any other port in the east coast of Africa including Durban. This report is out rightly illiterate. One If the Bagamoyo Port will be 30 times bigger than Mombasa we should start by asking a simple question: How big is the Port of Mombasa? The port last year handle 23 million tons. It is being expanded into a mega port to handled 2.1 million TEUs inn the next two years. So 30 times that much is 690 million tons or cargo and 63 million TEUs. Where will all that freight be going? The entire Africa or Tanzania and its hinterland i.e DRC, Malawi, Zambia and Burundi? Is that Practical?
Second the Man gloats alot about US$7billion Obama handout to Africa for electricity generation. If you divide the entire amount among all countries, each will receive just US$135 million enough to produce about 65Mw a piece. Kenya is beyond such meagre capacity. If he were reading Kenyan newspapers, correctly, He would see that Kenya is looking at growing its electricity generating capacity by 1000 MW each year for the next five years. Kengen Then power generating company is tgherefore looking to raising US$1 billion every year to expand capacity. How does US$135 million compare with US$1 billion a year for next five years? Pocket Change perhaps.
Three Lapsset is alive and well. If he reads correctly already the contract for the construction of the first three berths at a cost of US$500 million has been awarded. Work should start soon. Four, the Pipeline component though initially aSouth Sudan idea, kenya is now a part owner now that she has discovered oil of her own. Uganda is also expected to joint the Lapsset pipeline to export her crude via Lamu port, so it dead? Wishful thinking I must say. If you asking me Paul Mwangi is the one that believes his ----. He sounds like someone who's been asleep, wakes up finds a discussion in the middle and just shoots his mouth.
To the contrary!Msamehe mkuu
Sasa wewe mwathai, hiki ndio Kiingereza unachojivunia na kuwaona wengine wanaropoka na hawaelewi Kiingereza? Majanga. This report is out rightly illiterate. A project that will be at the tune of 10 Billion USD is a massive project especially by African standards.
Who does the Dar port serve?Congratulations for building the biggest port in east africa but who will it serve?
Who does the Dar port serve?
You call those typos?Mmmmh...try harder, you can correct all the typos of this world and end up proving nothing. The competitio on who understands which language only exists in your brain.
Its surprising that you don't get the irony in your question, if its to serve those already being served by Dar port why build it?
Dhuks is asking a valid question: If the Port's customer base does not grow beyond what already exists, why spend US $10 bn on it? As for the departure of the 3ks, that is respite. Mombasa Port is already a mega port. A High speed SG railway line will build between Mombasa and Kigali. The ground breaking ceremony is less than a week away. This will cut the travel time to just about 2 -3 days. Do you envisage the probability of the3ks turn to Daror Bagamoyo Ports in future? It's more than overwhelmed. Also remember Museveni, Kagame, Uhuru and Kikwete won't be in the office forever
Thank you askari Kanzu for demonstrating your ignorance. First I have not said anywhere that those who have a problem understanding English were fools, I just said they don't understand English. Thanks also for pointing out three errors out of a 100 word piece. As for colonial mentality, I think the problem is your inferiority complex. By the way, did you find any thing wrong or right with my position? I prefer debating ideas than political and linguistic shenanigans
1) When Kenyan government built the Nairobi-Thika expressway, why the city planners didn't stick with single lane highway?Dhuks is asking a valid question: If the Port's customer base does not grow beyond what already exists, why spend US $10 bn on it? Well, I expect something better than this from an "intellectual" of your caliber!Thank you askari Kanzu for demonstrating your ignorance...I think the problem is your inferiority complex.
